Invitation: Internship Opportunity at the Emergency Risk Management and Humanitarian Response Department, WHO Geneva

The Department of Emergency Risk Management and Humanitarian Response (ERM) has advised IFMSA of the opportunity for an internship experience in the Geneva headquarters of the World Health Organization. Good health status before, during, and after emergencies and disasters is critical for the resilience of people and communities. In order to ensure health risks are minimized, concerted efforts must occur across all sectors - to reduce loss of life, injuries, disease and disabilities, and to promote better health outcomes for those at risk. An effective and comprehensive emergency risk management approach is needed to equip communities and countries with the tools necessary to protect and promote health. The WHO ERM Department works with WHO Regional and Country Offices and health sector partners to support the development of country capacities for better management of health risks due to emergencies. The ERM Department also leads the Global Health Cluster and works with WHO partner Regional and Country Offices and health partners in coordinating international humanitarian response. It also serves as the focal point for WHO interaction with the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) and the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR).
