Direct Analysis Method STAAD Pro AISC 360

The DAM used in STAAD.Pro is relatively simple. There are 2 requirements:1) Define and assign any required Direct Analysis parameters from the Definitions on the Loads and Definitions dialog 2) Select the Perform Direct Analysis method (with appropriate factors) from the Analysis/Print commands dialog. There are 3 Direct Analysis Parameters 1) FLEX, identifies members which are to be considered as flexural members and their flexural stiffness modified by a factor times tau-b. This will require an iterative solution as the value to be used is determined by the forces from the analysis, hence an anlysis is performed, the results used to modify the bending stiffness and the model re-analysed. 2) AXIAL, identifes members whose axial stiffness should be reduced by 0.8 as they are contributing to the lateral stifness. This does not need an iterative solution. 3) NOTIONAL is used as a flag to identify whether tau-b should be calcutated or not. The Direct Analysis command does have a few options may need adjusting based on the non-linear effects of this form of analysis, but here is a sample sway frame model that shows a comparision of linear analysis, p-delta analysis and the direct analysis method that should help your understanding:STAAD SPACE START JOB INFORMATION ENGINEER DATE 08-May-08 END JOB INFORMATION INPUT WIDTH 79 UNIT METER KN JOINT COORDINATES 1 0 0 0; 2 0 4 0; 3 5 4 0; 4 5 0 0; 5 0 8 0; 6 5 8 0; MEMBER INCIDENCES 1 1 2; 2 2 3; 3 3 4; 4 2 5; 5 5 6; 6 6 3; DEFINE MATERIAL START ISOTROPIC STEEL E 2.05e+008 POISSON 0.3

Helllo, I have two questions regarding the Direct Analysis Method implemented in STAAD Pro (20.07.07.32). 1.- Do you have a more detailed Help than the one found in the STAAD regarding this issue? Apart from sections 5.37.5, 5.31.7 and 5.32.14, is there any other option? 2.- Do you have any example, apart from the screencast, to explain how to proceed? Currently it is difficult to check how it is STAAD doing the analysis internally to see if the stiffness is properly applied or the number of iterations carried out. Thanks, Kind Regards, Jaime.
