RECAP: SS Carlos Triunfel recorded 5 hit, including hitting for the cycle as Tacoma shutout Fresno 8-0 on Wednesday night. Singling on
the first pitch he saw in the fifth inning, Triunfel completed Tacoma's first cycle since Raul Ibanez accomplished the feat on Aug. 19, 1997
vs. Albuquerque. He also is the first player in the Pacific Coast League to cycle since Nashville's Caleb Gindl on July 10, 2011, also against
Albuquerque. Triunfel achieved the act in just his first 4 at-bats of the game. He tripled with one out in the first inning, led off the bottom of
the third with a double, then homered in the fourth. He completed the cycle in the fifth inning after lining a single down the right field line.
Triunfel snapped an 0-for-20 stretch coming into the game and was the first Rainiers player since Michael Saunders on July 30, 2011 vs.
Las Vegas to record 5 hits in a game. 2B Nick Franklin (2x3, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB) and RF Eric Thames (1x4, R, HR, 3 RBI) combined
to drive in 6 of the Mariners 8 runs. Starter James Paxton (6.0,2,0,0,4,5) recorded his first career triple-A win, allowing 2 hits and striking
out 5 in 6.0 innings. Relievers Andrew Kittredge (2.0,1,0,0,1,2) and Logan Bawcom (1.0,0,0,0,0,2) combined to strikeout out 4 batters in
3.0 innings to secure the 3-hit shutout.
OF NOTE: INF Nick Frankin has hit safely in 7 of 8 games to start the season, batting .333 (10x30) with 6 runs, 1 double, 1 home run, 6
RBI and 5 walks. OF Eric Thames is the only player in the league to reach base safely in each of his teams first 14 games this season,
with 13 games with hits. Overall this season he is batting .340 (18x43) with 9 runs scored, 2 double, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 1 stolen
base and 8 walks. LH Brian Moran has not allowed a run in 7.2 innings in 5 games in relief. Moran has held opponents to a .179 average
(5x28), while walking 2 and striking out 13. Zunino became the first Rainiers player since second baseman Dustin Ackley to have his first
Triple-A hit go for a home run on Thursday night. Ackley hit a solo homer in first Tacoma at-bat on July 15, 2010 at Reno. The Rainiers
begin the season with 4 of the top 5 prospects in the Mariners farm system, as ranked by Baseball America. Catcher Mike Zunino (No. 1),
pitchers Danny Hultzen (No. 3) and James Paxton (No. 4), and infielder Nick Franklin (No. 5) all sit atop BAs list entering the 2013
season.
