GardenFest2013

Saturday, September 21 10:00am 4:00pm


Join us for our annual Gardenfest. Our garden will be alive with garden lovers and their families from throughout the state. The day will include a variety of demonstrations, garden vendor booths, food, and childrens craft events. There is no charge for attending although donations are encouraged to help support continued educational programming. This is a must to get on everyones calendar.

TBG KIDS Look, Learn-See them Grow Series 2013

The Botanic Garden at OSU is pleased to provide Stillwater and the surrounding communities a variety of childrens programs in 2013 that are recommended for ages 312. The programs lead the children to understand the connections among people, plants and the environment.

Each program will be coordinated by teams of The Botanic Garden Ambassadors who bring diverse knowledge and talents to these programs.

Schedule of Programs
Recommended For Ages: 612 All activities start at 10:00am
June 15Leaf Painting-Understanding Natures Diversity During a walk through the garden, each child will select leaves of their choice and learn their plant names. Then, they will paint the leaves and, using them as stamps, prepare collages to take home for framing or to put on a bulletin board. July 6Creepy Crawlies and Fliers in the Garden Who lives in a garden? Children will walk through the garden in search of insects, bugs, worms, butterflies and birds. Then, they will learn the role each of these creatures play in the garden and ways to attract those residents who are welcome. July 20Bird Life in Oklahoma Using color photos, the children will learn of the most common birds found in Oklahoma during the summer and be asked to look for them in their own yards and surrounding fields. Then, each child will paint a small decorative bird house for display in their homes or backyards. September 7Garden Wonders Students will experience a field trip through the garden as they see the diversity of colors, textures, shapes, and scents. Included will be photo comparisons of the plants, shrubs, and trees that demonstrate how they have changed throughout the summer growing season. September 21GardenFest On this day, the garden will be alive with garden lovers and their families from throughout the state. October 5Designing Garden Critters Children will be asked to don their creativity hats. Then, with pine cones, pipe cleaners, grasses, and leaves in hand, each child will design critters that match their nature fantasies.

May 4Building a Fairy Garden Join the Ambassadors as they design and build a fairy garden to reside in The Botanic Garden during the summer for all to enjoy. Then, using your imagination and materials supplied, you will build your own fairy garden to reside at your house. May 18Mr. McGregors Vegetable Garden Prepare and plant a vegetable garden dedicated to the childrens program. Get those hands dirty preparing the soil, planting, mulching, and watering! Then, return home with an understanding of ideas for ones personal vegetable garden. June 1Baking a Successful Flower Garden The key to successful gardening is an understanding of the proper mix of soil, light, heat, and water. Children will participate in hands-on activities and a walk through the garden exploring the results of garden conditions. Then, they will all pot one shade and one sun plant to take home and observe in their personal flower beds.

May 4October 5Story-time in the Garden


Children are invited to come out and enjoy books on nature topics read by our garden Ambassadors. No charge
