In times of music therapy and wellness Sound massage is a very popular and worldwide used technique for relaxation. This technique can be combined with various kinds of therapies of massage, in pedagogic, music- and physiotherapy. It is used worldwide in Kindergarten, rehabilitation centers, homes for the elderly and others. Sound massage is mostly known with Singing Bowls but with the 70 stringed monochord of the Sound Massage Bed you have a powerful tool that affects the whole body. Because of its effectiveness we strongly recommend to assure a qualified and thoughtful handling of this instruments by learning the basics of Sound massage and the principles of resonance as well as an exchange with practioners. You can find links to seminars and practioners on our website www.boehmemusic.com. Overtone Sound Bed KLLKLL- 0 This Sound Bed has 70 blanc strings which allows the creation and build-up of multiple overtone series. This instrument creates a beautiful dance between sound and vibration which is felt throughout the whole body. You can tune it in the sound range B d. We recommend C sharp. Please note that for transport reasons the strings are tuned to C. Vibrational Sound Bed KLL- 2 This model has 30 blank strings to create overtones, 30 spun strings for deeper KLL vibration at one octave lower, and 10 thick spun golden strings which are placed at the outer edge of the bed to create a deep bass vibration. Chose a note between G - B for the spun strings and the same an octave higher for the blanc strings. Please read carefully the instructions for tuning!

How to tune
For transport reasons we tune the Sound Massage Bed one tone deeper than recommended. Strings (metal) and wood react on temperature and humidity, so it might be that the instrument sounds not so well when you unpack it. Give your instrument time to acclimate to the new surrounding. For the tuning, the Monochord Table should be turned around it axes, by loosening 4 screws. What you need - a tuner (e.g. CA-40 from Korg) that makes a proper tuning more easy. - the tuning key Tip : Just listen and you will get a feeling for when the tone is getting close to be tuned. The tone gets more full, when it reaches the pitch of the neighbour tone. If you didnt meet the tone exactly, loosen the string and start again. Tip 1 If you didnt meet the tone exactly, loosen the string a little bit and start again. Tip 2 Try to match the exact tone with a slow and smooth turn of the tuning key. Perhaps you think that this is a lot of work. Yes, it is! But this procedure helps you to connect to the instrument, to hear the right tone, the overtones and other sound phenomena. Only a well tuned instrument will unfold its full sound quality and effect!

How to change a broken string

If a string is broken, first remove the string and the rest of the string in the peg. Then (important!!!) turn the peg back till you see its winding. If you dont do this you will turn the peg deeper and deeper in the wood while tuning and the peg or wood will break. Take the string, pull it over the nail (pinch the loop cautiously) and run it in the hole of the peg. Then bend the string downwards. Now turn the tuning key to slightly tighten the string. Then start the tuning process again as describe above. Please only use the original feeltone strings for these instruments! They are specified for the perfect sound and needs of these instrument. Never use different kind of strings at the same time or you will void the warrenty of the instrument.

How to start playing

Basic play: Take a seat on the ground in front of the Sound Massage Bed. Start to play the strings in the middle where the keytone is. Take one finger and strike the strings - smooth and steady- from ahead to behind. Before you reach the last, thick string, take the finger of the other hand and play again from ahead to behind. Continue like this- right hand, left hand, right hand pp. for at least 7 10 minutes. Tip Imagine a wave rolling back and forth on the beach. When you have managed to play steady, strike with another finger and see how it feels and works.

Please note: Do not think that it is boring to play the same for so long minutes! Only with a steady flow you can bring your client in a state of relaxing where he can let go his thoughts. Variation: Start again in the middle till the sound is stable. Then take one hand and play the strings in another area (always from ahead to behind). Try to make a smooth transition. Now you have another tone and other overtones. Dont vary too much and too quick. Tip Imagine that you ARE the wave. When you are more skilled vary the intenseness and experience what happens. Play as often you can the wave start playing very silent then enhance the intensity slowly to a climax and play back again to silence. Do it in 3 to 10 minutes. This instrument can be very powerful so we appeal to you to handle it with awareness. If you are a beginner, we can help to find you an experienced instructor.

How to care (Please read carefully)

Please realise that wood is a natural material, that is still living and reacting on temperature and humidity. If the air is too hot and dry it can form cracks! So we strongly recommend to not turn up the

heating so much, and to take care that air humidity is NOT BELOW 50%! What you can do
- Choose a moderate room temperature - Use a hygrometer - Buy an air humidifier with automatic (you get good one for a low price). - Place plants in the room and bowls with water near the heater. - If you have floor heating: Turn the temperature down and a carpet under the instrument. PLEASE NOTE that we cannot taken responsible for repairing on our costs when you didnt take care.
