his nominations as JD(S) candidate on Monday. The allegations of ticket sale was made at a press conference by T G Narasimharaju, who had tried hard to get the JD(S) ticket from the Tumkur City constituency. Sampangis mother, Kattas associate in BJP final list

BANGALORE, DHNS: The State BJP on Tuesday nominated sitting MLA Y Sampangis mother Y Ramakka as its candidate for the KGF assembly constituency in Kolar district, and Jagadish Kumar, a close aide of former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu for the Hebbal seat in Bangalore.

These teachers, who have been drafted for election duty, wait for an official to listen to their grievances at the tahsildars office in Gangavati, Koppal district on Tuesday. All have requested for exemption from poll duty. Several have small children; others are pregnant and some others with wedding dates very close to the day of election. As the election duty comes under the Essential Services Maintenance Act, them not reporting for duty would entail either suspension or punishment. The tahsildar said their requests for exemption would be considered during training. DH PHOTO

During the deliberations that went late into the night at Deputy Chief Minister R Ashokas residence here, it was decided not to give the ticket to former minister S N Krishnaiah Setty to seek re-election from his home turf of Malur in Kolar district. Local BJP leader D V Venkatesh Gowda will contest from Malur. A disappointed Setty is contesting as an Independent candidate. In a bid to thwart any rebellion for having denied them the party ticket, the state BJP had given the three sitting legislators - Sampangi, Setty and Naidu - an opportunity to nominate candidates of their choice to the constituencies currently represented by them. While Naidu and Sampangi obliged, Setty did not. The party had been in a dilemma whether to field the

trio in view of serious corruption charges they are facing. While Sampangi was convicted by a Lokayukta court, Naidu and Setty had been in judicial custody for different periods. But, the trial against them is yet to be completed. All the three MLAs are now out on bail. The BJP also announced its candidates for the remaining constituiencies. Following is the list of candidates finalised on Tuesday. Malavalli (SC): Kumaraswamy; Krishnarajpet: Varadaraje Gowda; Kalghatgi: Irappa Salagar; Mudhol (SC): Govinda Karjol; Nagathana (SC): Nagendra Mayavamshi; Kampli (ST): B Shivakumar; Devanahalli (SC): Chandranna; Yeshwanthapur: H L Krishnappa; BTM Layout: N Sudhakar; Hangal: Basavaraj Veerappa Hadimani.

MYSORE: Unable to find employment despite being a post graduate in Ancient History from Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Siddaraju Kodandaramaiah decided to work as a day labourer. He joined a quarry in Karaand on April 21 to discuss strategies for defeating the digudda near Honganooru of Chamarajanagar taluk and Congress candidate. DH News Service started breaking stones to eke out a living. The owner of the quarry, after learning that Siddaraju was a post graduate, hired him as an accountant in the quarry soon after. It was a time when Siddaraju had a fixed job with appreciable salary and his dreams had begun to take shape. One day due to an accident at the quarry, a big stone landed on his legs. Doctors opined that his survival was difficult, if both of his legs were not amputated. Years later, Siddaraju is now contesting as an Independent candidate from the Chamundeshwari constituency in Mysore district. He recollects how his request for compensation from the employer, as he had lost both his legs in the incident, went in vain.

This encouraged Siddaraju to study law, so that he could fight his own legal battle against the owner. He completed his LLB from Sharda Vilas College in Mysore. Politics though, is not a new terrain for him. He had contested as an Independent candidate in the 2008 Assembly elections from Chamarajanagar constituency and had earned 3,676 votes. His wife is employed as an attender in University of Mysore, while his son is pursuing his graduation in a college here. My aim is to bring reforms in the field of agriculture, irrigation, education and health. I also think that it is only candidates who are economically weak, who can respond to the problems faced by the common man, he said.
