How I am creating, organising and developing my musical ideas

Details I started to write an eight bar melody (Section A) instructed by my teacher (18th September 11) to then add in chords corresponding with the notes. After I finished section A, I decided to give the tune to the violas to give a change to the structure a bit and extend the melody for another eight bars. The middle section of my piece needed to contain more diversity, so I created a melody in the minor key (B Minor) before returning to a slightly changed Section A (Tone and an octave higher) repeated in the original key (27th November 11). To finish I refined the chords, added passing notes, dynamics and tempo markings. I decided to do a string quartet as it is one of the easiest to compose for and I play in an orchestra as a violist, so I am very familiar with the instruments. I started off giving the melody to the 1st violin as they mainly have the tune in a piece when in an orchestra, then in Section B (12th December 11) decided to give it to the violas since I play it and I thought it would be nice for the violas to have a tune for once. Section A consists of eight bars of the initial melody followed by the same melody but in the violas in Section B. Section A comes back twice near the middle and end but they are slightly changed. When I first began this piece, I started off with an eight bar melody so I decided to keep each section the same length. The final form of this piece is Rondo form. I initially just tried to produce chords which corresponded with the melody notes instead of writing a proper accompaniment, which worked out fine. In the B minor section (5th January 13) I initially created a melody with long sustained semibreves which when my teacher looked at it told me to re-write it as it was very boring and just seemed as if it was copy and pasted, but in my opinion it was the only way to work with the type of melody I had. So I wrote

the section again from scratch (15th January 13). This was a lot more lively and a much better change from the former.
