Instruction: Read the comprehension text. Are crows eating the plants in your garden? How can you keep them away? You might want to try a scarecrow. A scarecrow is used to chase the birds such as crows away from disturbing crops. Scarecrow protects fields and gardens. Some scarecrows look like people. A scarecrows body can be made from old clothes stuffed with straws or leaves. A scarecrows head can be made from a pillowcase, a bucket, a plastic bottle or even a turnip! It is easy to make a scarecrow. All you need are old clothes and something for a head. You might just use some tins, pie pans or pies of cloth. In some countries, the scarecrows are real people. In fact, years ago, children did this job. They either ran across a field, shouting and making noise, waving their arms or clapping pieces of woods together. These scarecrows worked hard to keep the birds away. In modern days, when an unwanted animal disturbed or onto your property, a scarecrow sprinkler sprays them with a strong stream of water and sound to frighten them away.
