, the second extrude feature is created. This solid body will edge into sketch entity, click be the side core for slide in this sample.

The third extrude feature is created as the following pictures shown. This solid body is used to simplify the parting surface area, with this body taken into consideration, the parting surface will become much simpler.

Page 7 of 24 - Concept

Similar to the above step, the fourth extrude feature is created to simplify the slot area on the parting surface as the following pictures shown.

Page 8 of 24 - Concept

The fifth extrude body is used to handle the internal undercut area, it is actually a lifter head body. Please create the profile as the following picture shown.

Note: It is very important to satisfy some minimum requirements for the lifter body profile. The above two blue sketch lines should parallel each other. The inclined angle to the mold open direction is about 5-15 degree normally Minimum thickness is not less than 8mm Those are the basic mold design knowledge that user should be aware.

9. Create parting surface.

Pickup the bottom face on the part, click and press to create the internal rectangle as the to generate the black sketch lines shown below, the blue rectangle is the outer profile, click parting surface. Please ensure the outer profile is not less than the work piece size.

10.

Set parting surface

Pick up the newly create planar surface and activate the Entity Grouping , right click on the Parting Surfaces, select Set. One parting surface is set as parting surface, the face color is changed into yellow immediately.

Design changes

How to take care of the design changes in 3DQuickMold

Page 16 of 24 - Concept Case 1: Small changes happen on the original plastic part. Add some materials (one extrude feature on the top face in blue) and remove some materials (one extrude cut feature on the top face in blue) on the original part, those changes dont affect the existing parting surface and dont result in new side cores. Also, no holes generated.

In this case, click

and select

to switch to product assembly,

press to rebuild the assembly, the core/cavity should be updated automatically to reflect those changes. No extra jobs need to be done by user. Case 2: Small change but result in a new through hole feature in the part.

If click and select , then press to update, there are some errors occurred in the feature tree. Different from the case 1, the core/cavity wont be updated automatically. This is because the part topology changing results in the internal parting surface changing.

Page 17 of 24 - Concept

To fix this problem, click to activate user needs to do is creating a solid patch to plug this hole.

, locate the hole area, what the

Page 18 of 24 - Concept

Click press

and select

to back to the Product assembly, then

to rebuild, the red wrong features in feature trees should be gone.

The error was fixed now, but the change on the part still doesnt reflect on the core/cavity geometry. Click on Mold Tools and select , following the below dialog shown, select the cavity part as target component and pick up the last created solid body directly in the graphic area to the body selection box, click to complete this step.

Page 19 of 24 - Concept Note: Paste Body function is normally used in conjunction with the Solid Attribute to achieve some design automations and reduce design errors. However, Solid Attribute is not a must to be done to perform Paste Body.

Case 3: Part change occurs exactly on the parting surface area. Initially, the below spline area on the parting surface is a simple straight line. Accordingly, the parting surface at this area is a planar surface.

Click

and select

to switch to the Product assembly, then

press to update, as you can expect, such a big change will definitely affect the core/cavity geometry, without any modification done, the update result has some errors immediately on the feature tree.

Page 20 of 24 - Concept Note: Whenever the parting line area changes, there need some modifications accordingly on the part to be done to reflect the new design. Dont expect the core/cavity can be updated automatically as parting lines changing means the major parting elements changing as well.

However, only limited minor changes should be done to fix this problem in 3DQuickMold. Remain all existing design unchanged in this case, click and select to back to the Product part, an additional extrude feature at the changed area should be done as the following picture shown.

Page 21 of 24 - Concept

Click press

and select

to activate the Product assembly again,

to rebuild the assembly. Errors should be fixed immediately.

One more step to modify the core/cavity change. Click

and

select , when the Paste Body page appears, select the core part as the target component and newly create solid body into the corresponding selection box, finally, click to complete the modification on core part.

Page 22 of 24 - Concept

Case 4: Mold design change but the bodys topology remains the same as before. To make the design more practical, the following change has considered the draft angle issue and the parting lines are offset some distance to reduce the flash on this parting area.

Since the above grey core blocks topology is not changed, simply click select , then press

and

to rebuild, 3DQuickMold will update the core/cavity.

Page 23 of 24 - Concept

Case 5: Mold design change but the bodys topology changes too. A fillet is added as below.

Click press

and select

to switch to the Product assembly, then

to rebuild, there is an error on the core side.

Page 24 of 24 - Concept

There is a particular tool in 3DQuickMold to handle this issue, press the last button on 3DQuickMold toolbar dialog pops up, click when the message

. The system will fix the above error automatically.

This sample is normally used as the first training part in 3DQuickMold, it is a very simple part and shows how the system handles the core/cavity separation intuitively and easily while maintain the associtivity good.
