COROMAX pulse system Mark III

The introduction in 1990 of the FLS COROMAX Mark III pulse energization system represented an important technical and economical advancement in pulse technology, made possible by the latest developments in high voltage thyristor technique. In COROMAX Mark III the pulse-firing switch operates at high potential whereby the pulse transformer required in Mark I and II can be eliminated. This results in significant savings in volume, price, and installation costs. The system becomes very compact, comprising one oil-filled tank only and a control cabinet. Physically the Mark III system is very similar to the traditional transformer-rectifier set. Pressure alarm Terminal box Temperature alarm Grounding switch

The FLS COROMAX Mark III system consists of: A. A DC high voltage supply comprising a three-phase transformer/rectifier with blocking reactor, a pulse power supply comprising a three-phase transformer/rectifier with blocking reactor, a storage capacitor, thyristor switch with return diodes, and a series inductance, all placed in a common oil-filled tank together with a firing and protection unit for the thyristor switch, and current shunts and voltage dividers for measuring purposes. A control cabinet containing circuit breakers, main contactor, thyristor controller for the DC high voltage supply, thyristor controller for the pulse power supply, thyristor firing unit, and the PIACS-COROMAX automatic control unit.

B.

The oil-filled tank with the DC and pulse power supply is placed on the precipitator roof, and its high voltage bushing connected to the precipitator section by means of a busbar in steel trunking. The control cabinet, which must be placed in a suitable dust free environment at distances varying from a few meters up to 100 meters or more from the tank, is connected to the tank by two threephase power cables and one screened multicore signal cable. The installation of the system thus is practically as simple as for a conventional DC power supply.

Product Description

The COROMAX Mark III system is designed for base voltages of max. 40 kV or max. 60 kV, a nominal pulse voltage of up to 70 kV, a nominal pulse width of 140 microseconds, and a pulse repetition frequency of up to 200 pps. It is available in two standard unit sizes with nominal ratings of 57.5 and 115 nF. The largest of these is capable of energizing a precipitator collecting plate area of up to around 4000 square meter.

PIACS-COROMAX
PIACS-COROMAX is the registered trade mark for the microprocessor-based control unit for manual and automatic operation of the COROMAX pulse energization system. The PIACSCOROMAX is installed in the control cabinet of the pulse system. The control panel of the PIACS-COROMAX contains analogue instruments, LCD (liquid crystal display), keyboard and push buttons for display and setting of operating and control parameters. The PIACS-COROMAX monitors the pulse system (corona current, sparks during pulse, sparks between pulses) and automatically controls the DC base voltage, the pulse amplitude (pulse voltage) and the pulse repetition frequency in accordance with a programmed control strategy aiming at maintaining maximum precipitator efficiency.
