Designing and implementing workshops in cost-benefit analysis, marketing, basic accounting, and credit management with farmers. Helping farmers create farmer-owned and controlled marketing and supply cooperatives. Facilitating small business start-ups or income generating activities. Providing technical assistance in improving crop and livestock production. Improving agribusinesses by implementing idea banks or incubators for new projects. Providing technical assistance to improve management and marketing practices. Training agribusinesses in market analysis, production techniques, economic forecasting, financing options, costing and pricing, packaging, transporting, and developing new value-added products. Advising government officials who are formulating and implementing strategies for the agricultural sector. Assisting individuals and organizations to adjust to privatization efforts and move towards a free market economy. Training community members and college students using innovative teaching methodologies at agricultural training institutions.

Desired Skills & Experience


Required qualifications:

BA/BS in Agriculture Economics; OR 3 years experience in farm management and/or agribusiness; OR BA/BS degree combining agriculture and management, including agribusiness, agricultural management, farm management; OR BA/BS in any business or economics discipline with 1 year experience in farming or agribusiness. There is no second language requirement to serve in the Peace Corps; however, individuals who have at least two semesters of Spanish or French at the university level or have completed four years of a romance language in high school within the last eight years are highly desired. If you have learned a language informally, the Peace Corps may consider the CLEP and ACTFL exam results for placement.

The ideal candidate: Candidates are either recent graduates with a degree in Agriculture Economics or a degree in business or economics with 1 year of farm/agribusiness experience. Relevant experience may include agriculture management, farming, or gardening work. Some applicants may have a general knowledge of business, computer skills, research and networking skills, and the ability to collaborate and share resources with others.
