Ct Scan Computed Tomography

Jan. 18,2013

Provides a three dimensional cross sectional view of tissues. Computer constructed picture interprets densities of various tissues. Most useful for viewing tumors in the chest, abdominal cavity and brain.

Explain the procedure to the client. Obtain informed consent. Remove wigs, hairpins and clips for head. Initiate Npo status and Hr prior to scan. Assess for iodine allergy, observe for signs of anaphylaxis, dye is used check for claustrophobia. Informed the client that the test will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Advise the patient to drink plenty of liquids/water after your test is complete.

Multiple bilateral pulmonary nodules, as described. Primary consideration is metastases.

So that the contrast dye can be quickly flushed from your body and you do not become dehydrated.

Atherosclerotic changes of the thoracic aorta and left coronary artery.

Minimal thoracic osteodegenerative changes.

MRI Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Dec. 17,2012

Uses magnetic field for radio waves to detect edema, hemorrhage, blood flow, infarct tumors, infection, aneurysms, demyelinating disease, muscular disease, skeletal abnormalities, intervertibral disk problems and causes of spinal cord compression. Provides greater tissue discrimination. Than do chest X-ray or Ct Scan.

Explain the procedure to the patient and assess ability to remain still in a closed space.

Asked to wait until the images are examined to determine if more images are needed. After the scan, you have no restrictions and can go about your normal activities.

Evaluate patient for contraindication to MRI: implanted devices such as pacemakers and neurostimulators that may malfunction; metallic implants such as prosthetic values or joints, or metallic surgical clips that may move out of place. Check with MRI technician about the use of equipment, such as ventilator or mechanical I.V. pump, in MRI room.

No significant interval change in large lobulated/septated left thigh mass, previously ascribed as soft tissue neoplasm with hemorrhagic components.

Once the entire MRI examination is completed, the pictures will be looked at by a radiologist a specially trained physician who is able to interpret the scan for your doctor.

Slight thinning of the anterior cortex of the left femur.

Evaluate the patient for claustrophobia, and teach relaxation techniques to use during test.

No evidence of cortical erosion or marrow edema.

Send reports to doctor and you should contact your doctor to go over your results and discuss your next step.
