Constitution

PREAMBLE
The Society of Pre-Health Professionals of Canisius College aims to bring together
various students of all backgrounds who have the desire to pursue any kind of field in
medicine or health and wish to help and serve others in their community. By volunteering
and giving time to different organizations to aid people, getting involved with a plethora
of various medical professions and providing academic assistance, members of the
society will benefit socially, academically and professionally. Gaining valuable
experience that will assist them throughout their career beyond Canisius.

ARTICLE I: Name
Society for Pre-Health Professionals of Canisius College (SPHP)

ARTICLE II: Membership


Section I: Membership is open to all Canisius College students with an interest in
any health or medical related career.
Section II: Good Standing membership is defined by attendance to a minimum of
50% of all meetings with exceptions made by either the president or
vice-president. Members in good standing are recommended to
volunteer at least twice a semester in a medically related
environment/setting either independently or through the Society. All
members in good standing must be on at least one committee. Also
good standing members are encouraged to maintain good character
and leadership, involvement throughout the Canisius campus, strive to
achieve both academic achievement and excellence and lastly be
active in reaching out to the local community.
Section III: Activities and events hosted or sponsored by the Society are open to
all Canisius College students including members of the club who are
not considered in good standing.

ARTICLE III: Officers


(All officers are elected to office for a one-year term)
President – In charge of calling and running the meetings as well as the Society,
oversees the day to day operations of the club including assisting the
Vice-President in the various activities of the different committees.
Lastly ensures that the image and ideas of the Society are not only
maintained but also thoroughly upheld.
Vice-President – Assists President and performs duties in absence of the
president, oversees all activities of the various committees with
assistance from the President, works to be the liaison between the
Canisius Pre-Medical Office and the Society to ensure adequate
communication.
Event Manager – Arranges both on and off campus special events, activities,
group networking, social gatherings to better benefit the Society in
social, academic, respectable and professional ways.
Treasurer- Manages the financial resources of the club and budget including
spending and raising money. Also oversees charitable fundraising and
various donations from and to the Society.
Secretary- Maintains club documents and information records all meeting
minutes, oversees adherence and additions to the constitution, also
notifies members of upcoming meetings through emails and contact
with the Pre-Medical Office

ARTICLE IV: Executive Committee


(Executive committee chairs can be either club officers or members in
good standing appointed by a unanimous vote from the Society Officers)
Finance Chair – Works with the Treasurer of the Society in aiding in making
spending decisions. Responsible for monetary decisions, records of
accounts, and proper storage of all money as well as maintaining
the appropriate distribution of the budget.
Records Chair – Specifically works with the Secretary in distribution of necessary
materials, recording meeting minutes, proceedings and attendance,
takes role and duties of the secretary if absent
Social Chair – Oversees planning of club events, guest speakers, coordinated
special projects. Works specifically with the Event Manager to
come up with new ideas for group activities and Society sponsored
campus events.
Community Chair – Specifically focuses on volunteering through community
service and service learning in settings that pertain to not only
medicine but any health related field.
Publicity Chair – Works with the officers of the club to ensure that the meetings
and image of the Society are not only well communicated but
thoroughly advertised. Also oversees current membership and the
recruitment of new students through membership drives and other
activities.
Advisors – The advisor(s) will attend both meetings and activities/events of the
Society and advise officers in legislative and other matters
regarding the benefit of both the members and the image of the
entire organization. Will also serve to be the liaison between
Faculty/Staff and Students when necessary

ARTICLE V: Meetings
Meetings will be announced at least one to two weeks prior to their occurrence.
Meeting notices will be sent to all members via email, will be posted on Bulletin
Board and scheduled times will be noted on the Society’s home page. There will
be at least one meeting scheduled per month and more if feasible
ARTICLE VI: Amendments
Amendments may be brought before the general body including both the
executive committee and the officers of the Society by any member in good
standing.

ARTICLE VII: Ratification


Amendments shall be ratified by a 2/3 vote of Society member who are in good
standing with 2/3 or more than half of all members in good standing present. The
president with collaboration from both the other officers and the advisors has the
right to veto any legislation including amendments which may be overturned by a
2/3 or more than half vote from good standing members.
