Multicultural Perspectives: Families, Schools, and Community Partnerships/Education in a Diverse Society Culturally Responsive Lesson Plans

Assignment:

This assignment is designed to offer you an opportunity to plan appropriate culturally responsive lessons for Pre-K through 12th grade students. You will be required to prepare one lesson plan for children/students within the age range of your certification. General Guidelines Within your group or individually: 1. Select an appropriate activity for the above mentioned age group. What is the overall scope of the activity? What is the child/student expected to gain from participating in the activity? 2. From the scope of the activity, state the specific objectives that the child/student would be expected to achieve. (It may help to think of a specific child with whom you have had contact). Objectives should include what is to be done, by whom, under what conditions and to what extent (criteria for performance). 3. State all the materials that will be needed for successful completion of the lesson plan. 4. Describe procedures for accomplishing the objectives. This description should provide enough detail so that anyone reading it will know how you plan to teach the lesson and the specific steps you will be following. 5. Evaluation criteria need to be included. In this section, you need to include how you plan to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. It should state the strategies and procedures to be used in measuring child/adult behaviors related to the lesson objectives. 6. Discuss how you would infuse technology into your lesson plan? 7. Discuss the role of culturally responsive teaching within your lesson (i.e. state how you infuse cultural diversity into your lesson plan) 8. Design an extension to your lesson plan that families can do at home to reinforce the outcomes of the lesson. 6. Teach the lesson to our class as if you are teaching within the K-12 classroom.
