4.3.2

TABLE SHI-STD-002

Package Type
A: WEATHER PROOF CONTAINER This is to be a container to keep parts contained in the package dry. The container could be a plastic or steel pail or container, or a heavy corrugated box placed inside a plastic lined crate. Packaging could also be panels placed on a skid, plain side up and completely shrink wrapped. B: DAMAGE AND MOISTURE RESISTANT Similar to A except the components will required the use of a shock absorbing packaging such as bubble wrap or Styrofoam chips with individual plastic or corrugated cardboard packaging and if necessary desiccant bags to absorb moisture. Actual requirements shall be included in contract documents. C: CRATED, SKIDDED OR BANDED AND BLOCKED Where moisture or other contamination is not an issue. D: FULLY BLANKED FLANGES AND PIPING - (SEE OPTIONS 1, 2 OR 3 below 4.3.3) Also, all piping assemblies, components shipped loose to site for field installation shall have all flanges protected as per I of this standard and all openings sealed to prevent internal contamination. E. PROTECT ALL EXPOSED INSULATION WITH UV RESISTANT PLASTIC SHEET WITHOUT HOLES, TEARS, GAPS OR LOOSE OVERLAPS It is important that the plastic covering be complete so it does rip or tear in transport in order to provide optimum protection against the elements. All seams should be lapped to shed rain. F: SHIPPING AND HANDLING BRACES, BLANKS AND SHIPPING TIE-DOWN POINTS - This is for all externally clad equipment. ATCO EM is to provide drawings detailing the type of installation bracing, blanking, shipping support braced and hold down points for tying down to the truck for transport. G: PLASTIC WRAPPED This applies to all baffles shipped loose to site or storage. Drawings to the supplier are to include location for straps to hold the baffles in position on the truck. Each baffle shall have a loading and handling label attached and each load shall have this same instruction included with the bill of lading and shall also be included with the Shipping Bill of Material sent to the customer. H: PEAKED OR SLOPED ROOF OF TOP BLANKS, PADLOCKED DOORS AND PORTECTION OF GLASS WINDOWS Packaging of all openings shall be the same as F except for roof openings which must be pitched from the centerline or sloped from one side to allow water to shed. Doors shall be padlocked to prevent accidental opening or damage to the inside during transportation and storage on site. Windows must be protected with corrugated plastic or cardboard covered with plastic and marked with GLASS on the exposed surface. I: BLANKS, RUST INHIBITOR (if carbon steel) AND PLASTIC WRAP - All flanges shall have a minimum of a wooden cover, securely bolted to the flange with appropriate hardware (appropriate hardware shall be the use of a bolt of sufficient length to secure the blank, protective gasket, double washers and lock nut or double nuts to the flange) and shrink wrapped with plastic wrap. Raised face flanges shall have a rubber or Styrofoam gasket installed on the raised face as additional protection from damage. If the flange is carbon steel it will also be necessary to coat the face of the flange with an appropriate rust inhibitor. J: SPECIAL PACKAGING INSTRUCTION - All special packaging outside of this standard shall be included in contract documents. Transmittal of this information is the responsibility of the Project Manager.

4.3.3 Crated items from the Shipping Bill of Material: A detailed packing list of all parts loaded into shipping crates, containers, or on skids, MUST be securely attached to the inside and outside of the crate or container and in two locations on a skid in moisture proof packages. Photographs must be taken of the parts before closing the crates, containers or wrapping the skids to verify the condition of the parts enclosed.
