Samedi 1.

1
(c) 2010-2012 Netherworks Studios Thank you for downloading Samedi!

Installation
The full Samedi package is offered in 3 zip files. NWS-Samedi 1 Content is the standard package and can be installed by simply unzipping the contents to any Poser Content Runtime location. NWS-Samedi 2 Poser Modules is a package that adds Talk Designer and Universal Pose capability to Samedi. It is optional and only useful for Poser users. It should be installed to where your Poser or PoserPro executable resides (the core Poser installation). NWS-Samedi 3 PuppetMaster AddOn is solely an add-on for PuppetMaster Biped, offered by SmithMicro. It is option and only useful for Poser 7, Poser Pro, Poser 8 and Poser Pro 2010 users (as of this writing). It should be installed to where your Poser or PoserPro executable resides (the core Poser installation).

Requirements
Samedi was designed with Poser 6 or higher in mind. Basic testing was done in DAZ Studio and simple DAZ Studio Material Files are included.

Features
Samedi is more or less a conventional Poser figure. However, some areas may require some additional notation.

Posing
Samedi loads with leg IK turned on. He comes into the scene posed, mostly to facilitate the Walk Designer feature in Poser. You can easily turn off Samedi's IK via Poser's IK in the Figure menu or by using the included Zero IK Utility Pose included in the Pose Library under MOR Samedi. There are also additional IK Poses present to turn Arm or Leg IK on. Samedi features several Body Movement Dials. These are ERC dials that will often manipulate several body parts at once, giving you single-dial posing or a way to springboard or tweak existing poses. There are 9 Arm Control Dials, 15 Leg Control Dials and 6 Torso Control Dials. Samedi also features standard grasping and bend dials for the fingers in each hand. If you decide to use the Body Movement Dials, it is best to start Samedi from a zero-posed state. A Zero Pose is included in the Pose Library under POSE Samedi. -1-

Scaling
Samedi has several working scaling dials to give you additional shaping possibilities. These dials include: HeadSize (head), ArmsStretch (body, including left and right dials), HandsSize (body and in each hand), LegsStretch (body, including left and right dials), FeetSize (body and in each foot) and TorsoStretch (body). Additionally, Samedi's eyes each have their scales exposed, which will work normally. Poser 8 or higher may be required to fully use scaling, especially when posing or using clothing on Samedi. LegsStretch dials can only be used with Poser's IK turned off. Samedi also includes 3 Scaling Poses, located in the Pose Library under MOR Samedi. These can turn Samedi into Baby or Young versions. Technically, they only affect body, head, hand and feet scaling so they should work fine with most clothing. To apply to clothing simply select the clothing and also apply the scaling pose to it.

Look and Eye Adjustments

Samedi includes 3 look dials in the head (well, as much as a button can look). He also features a couple of Eye positioning dials (EyesInOut and EyesDownUp) for positioning the eyes where you want them.

Morphs
The base Samedi figure includes a variety of standard morph targets. Please be aware that MouthClose is set to 1.000 by default if you design custom morphs for him or utilize the Poser Morph Brush. Most of the included morphs are expressives, such as smiles, frowns and the like. However, there are several general shaping morphs. Keep your eye out for additional morph packs to be released in the future. Add-On Morphs, such as Phonemes (included), are applied using Poser's PMD Injection/Removal system. They can be found in the Pose Library, under MOR Samedi. In order to utilize the PMD system, DAZ Studio users will need DeltaX15's InjectPMD Plugin found here (the beta version for DAZ Studio 4 is on approximately page 21 of the thread).

Poses
Nine (9) Poses are included for Samedi, including Default and Zero Poses. They are found in the Pose library under POSE Samedi.

Scale to other Poser figures

Samedi is approximately the same size as Koneko (offered at RDNA) and in fact has approximately the same centers for his joints. This will allow him to accept Koneko poses (with slight adjustment) and to wear Koneko clothing once an appropriate magnet shaping set is released (very soon!). In comparison to other figures, Samedi is waist high to Victoria 4 and a few inches taller than the Kids 4. He also makes a nice playmate for Littlefox' Cookie or Chip (wanna play???). To adjust his overall size, simple scale him up or down using his BODY scale dials and then dials the individual scaling dials (mentioned earlier) to taste.

Injection Loader
This package contains a special injection loader figure file, found in the Figures Library, under Slot Injection. It is 100% optional. Basically what this does is load Samedi into the scene for you, accompanied by many hidden Injection Slots for developers who do not wish to use the PMD system for their own Samedi AddOns. Using the loader is not required for any Samedi Add-Ons produced by Netherworks Studios, it is there to facilitate others. For morph-makers, the system is contained in the Geometries folder under Netherworks, Samedi then Injection. In-House Channels start with PBMSAM_, from 01 to 100. Community Channels start with PBMSC_ and range from 01 to 50. If you move the Samedi.cr2 to a different main folder and still want to use the injection system, you need to open Samedi INJ Loader.cr2 in a text editor and change line 10 to point to where the Samedi.cr2 is located (relative paths).

Textures
Samedi comes fully textured with displacement, bump-mapping and specular. He actually has composite eyes that gives him the ability to adopt two different eye styles. The standard style eyes for Samedi are stitched buttons. However, he can switch to glued on button eyes via Poser's material options. Mats are included to easily do this. If rendering with displacement, you should set the Min displacement bounds in Poser's Render options to 0.002 or higher.

Clothing
Samedi comes with clothing in the way of a T-Shirt, which was previously offered as a freebie item. It has been reworked to move better with Samedi. The Scaling dials on Samedi now super-conform (automatically adjust) when the T-Shirt is conformed. The T-Shirt also works with Samedi's Laveau Add-On and contains those applicable morphs, which also should super-conform. The T-Shirt can be found in the Figures Library under Samedi then Clothing.

Pins
Where would a Voodoo Doll be without his trusty pins? Samedi includes a Morphing Pin prop that comes in both a universal style (regular prop) and 4 pins that are smart-propped to various body parts. This was set up in advanced simply as a convenience and you can smart prop any of the pins to any of Samedi's body parts.

Extra Utilities
This package contains a variety of useful utility files, presented as Poses or Expressions, that you can use to reset groups of Samedi's dials. For example, you can reset all the Movement dials found in the body or all the Expressions found in the head. The utility files are found in the Pose Library under MOR Samedi for files that affect the entire body and in the Expressions Library under EXP Samedi for files that affect only the head.

Universal Pose Add-On

In the second zip file is a Universal Pose add-on for Poser 7 and higher. It should be installed to Poser's main program folder. Poser should be closed when installing this feature.

Using Universal Poses

In Poser, it's best to have "Apply universal poses" checked in Poser's General Preferences under the "Library" tab at the top. If your regular poses aren't applying as universal poses, you may need to convert them first. Clear the Poser scene and load the ORIGINAL figure for which the pose was made. Don't load hair or anything else, just the naked figure. Apply the pose to the figure then save the Pose back into the library (I strongly urge you to use an alternate Folder of your own creation to save these modified Poses OR use a slightly different name for them, just for the sake of keeping the original intact!). You should now be able to apply the universal pose (the one you saved) to Samedi.

Which Poses are Universal by Default?

It's a safe bet that most of the commercial 3rd party poses are NOT universal poses by default. Poser 7 and higher has a native folder of "Universal Poses" that should apply to any figure with Universal Pose support. Some other native poses here and there are Universal but it's a bit random.

Which Figures have Universal Pose support?

Actually a TON of them, over 240 including several 3rd party figures, Victoria up to V4, Michael up to M4. You can look at the dat files in Runtime/figures/Repose for a general idea of which figures have support.

PuppetMaster Biped
If you have Smith-Micro's version of PuppetMaster Biped, you can unzip the contents of the third zip to Poser's main program folder. Poser should be closed when installing this feature. If you have PhilC's original Puppetmaster Biped installed, you will instead need to unzip the contents to a temporary folder and move "NWS_Samedi.dat" and "NWS_Samedi.txt" to "Runtime/Python/poserScripts/PhilC/Puppet Master/Biped/data". If you have the intermediate eFrontier version, the folder to move those two files to is likely "Runtime/Python/poserScripts/eFrontier/Puppet Master/Biped/data".

Talk Designer Add-On

In the second zip file is a Universal Pose add-on for Poser 7 and higher. It should be installed to Poser's main program folder. Poser should be closed when installing this feature.

Using Talk Designer

In order to utilize the Talk Designer feature, Samedi must have Phonemes injected, found in the Pose Library under MOR Samedi. Please refer to the Poser Manual for details on how to actually use the Talk Designer. You will find a Viseme file for Samedi in the dropdown inside Talk Designer. For Samedi to work properly, make sure that MouthClose is set to 1.000 before using the Designer. You should also set Brows (morph under the Brows group) to 1.000 if you want to clearly see Eyebrow expressions.

Updates
Version 1.1 Released February 2012
This Valentine's Day, Samedi is getting a whole lotta love from Netherworks Studios! Emphasis on making Samedi and its product line easier for the end-user without removing the ability to subtly adjust the figure. Overhaul made to Samedi's rigging (joint adjustment), mainly on limbs and the ends of limbs. Some joint minimum and maximum ranges were increased slightly. Posing tweaks now allowed with Poser's Limits set to On, particularly on the hands and feet. Greatly improved Grasp, Thumb Grasp and Bend dials in both hands. Improved Expression Morphs, such as Smile and Frown. Where applicable, reasonable limits were set in the morphs. Greatly improved the MouthClose morph, which results in much lower texture distortion when the mouth is closed. MouthClose now defaults to a value of 1.000. Tweaked the MouthSmall morph for accuracy. Conversion of Samedi's old Injection Loaded system to friendlier and more flexible Poser PMD system. This doesn't affect adding blank community slots, which retains the original system. However, morph packs will be delivered as PMD adjustments to Add-Ons, such as Laveau is forthcoming. DAZ Studio users will need DeltaX15's InjectPMD Plugin found here (the beta version for DAZ Studio 4 is on approximately page 21 of the thread). Integrated Phonemes morphs as PMD injection/removal. These are found in the Pose Library, under MOR Samedi. Integrated Universal Pose and Talk Designer modules as a separate zip file. Optional PuppetMaster Biped add-on as a separate zip file (only works in Poser 7, Poser Pro, Poser 8 and PoserPro 2010 as of this writing). Integrated T-Shirt package. Joint setting adjusted slightly to accommodate Samedi's joint tweaks. The scaling and morphs in the Shirt now super-conform to Samedi (or Laveau). The T-Shirt includes 3 colorful textures plus PYO (paint your own). Three (3) new scaling Poses that turn Samedi to young and baby versions, then back to standard. They are found in the Pose Library, under MOR Samedi. Inclusion of DAZ Studio (version 2 or higher) Material Files. These will likely require fine tuning by the end user. Addition of Utility Expressions that allow you to reset certain groups of dials. These are found in Poser's Expressions Library under EXP Samedi. Addition of Reset Poses that allow you to reset certain groups of body dials (including hand and feet dials). These are found in the Pose Library under MOR Samedi. Fourteen Poses (14) are now included, including a Zero Pose. Some older poses tweaked slightly. -6-

IK Utility Poses are now included in the Pose Library under MOR Samedi.

Updating Samedi for 1.1

There were several changes to the original Samedi figure. If you had him downloaded and installed into a Poser Content Runtime prior to the 1.1 Update and would like to have the update package as a clean installation, the following is a list of files that you should remove prior to installing this package: Samedi (basic package) In \Runtime\Libraries\Character\Samedi\ remove: Samedi INJ Loader.cr2, Samedi INJ Loader.png Talk Designer Freebie In \Runtime\Geometries\Netherworks\Samedi\Injection\ remove: NWSSamedi_Phenomes.pz2. In \Runtime\Libraries\Character\Samedi\ remove Phenomes Loader.cr2, Phenomes Loader.png. All other existing files should be overwritten.
