EDEL 453: Teaching Elementary School Social Science Nevada State College Spring 2013 Instructor: Karen Powell
The museum consists of 100 hands on exhibits about science, arts, and humanities. During this field trip, students will visit an everyday living section where they will learn about jobs, earning a paycheck, depositing savings in a bank, and buying groceries.
During this assembly, the firefighter will teach students the importance of having an escape route in case of an emergency, and how to use 911. After the presentation, the firefighter will answer questions from students.

This site teaches students about money, how it is earned and spent. Students will have a chance to run their own business (lemonade stand) where they will have to manage money, trying to make a profit.

This tour is designed to introduce Geography students to the basics of maps and globes. You will look through various sites and answer questions about maps and their qualities.

Students will learn about the Boulder Canyon Project, and about the men and women of Southern Nevada who built the Hoover Dam and Boulder City. The exhibits they will see describe the great social and economic forces surrounding the 1929 Stock Market Crash, and the Depression that drove thousands of unemployed citizens from their homes into the Nevada desert to the Boulder Canyon Project where they would find work again.
Students will learn how safety tips, and how to handle themselves if a stranger approaches them. During the assembly the police officer will read a book, Safety yells back, by Fran Sutton, on stranger danger and how to stay safe. Afterwards, the officer will answer questions from students.

This site allows you to visit a virtual farm, and why farming is important to your life. Students can see what kind of crops are grown on a farm, how cows are milked, and learn about the different types of cows on a farm.

1. Explain which field trip you think you will actually try to use.
The one I will definitely use is having a guest speaker come into the classroom, to teach students tips on how to be safe if a stranger approaches them. It is important they have these skills so they know how to handle themselves in a situation where they may be in danger.
