The Parents Info Update

We hope you have a great start to the new year. Ministry of Social and Family Development: Please be reminded that MCYS is now known as MSF or Ministry of Social and Family Development. Please look out for resource which consists of a booklet on developmental milestones for children up to 3 years old, a calendar and a covering letter from CDN. We will pass the resource to you directly or pass to your child/school bus driver. There are also video series on developmental progress for children from birth to 3 years, accessible at CDN videos link. http:/app.cdn.gov.sg/GrowingWithYourChildResourceKit.aspx . We hope you find resource relevant and helpful. Themes for Term 1: Our schools curriculum period of follows Singapores Ministry of Educations curriculum period. Thus, the year is divided into four school terms (10 weeks in each term). We plan various themes per school term. The themes for Term 1 are: Myself : My Family : My School and Friends : My Neighbourhood : 7 January 25 January ( 3 Weeks) 28 January 15 February ( 3 Weeks) 18 February 1 March (3 Weeks) 4 March 15 March ( 2 Weeks)

We just ended the theme Myself. Children learned about body parts, the five senses (sight, touch, taste, hearing and smell) through four core subjects Expression (English-Language and Literacy) Mathamagic (Numbers-Numeracy) Mother Tongue (Mandarin-Language and Literacy) and Explorer (Science-Environmental Awareness) conducted through activities like Rhythm (Music and Movement-Aesthetics and Creative Awareness), Wiggle Works (Reading and Story-Telling-Language and Literacy), Reflection (Art and Craft-Aesthetics and Creative Awareness), Kidzercise (Gross and Fine-motor Exercises, Sand and Water Plays-Motor Skills Development), EdVenture (IT/Computer-aided), Theatre (Speech and Drama) and Mastery (Cookery).

Field and Neighbourhood Trips: As part of our school activities to support the childrens learning, we will periodically carry out outings. These outings are referred as Field Trips or Neighbourhood Trips. Field Trips are conducted at least once in a school term to venues farther than Sembawang town, like to Changi Airport for Transportation theme. This maybe our venue for our first Field Trip on Friday 12 April 2013. We will provide you details of the trip later. Neighbourhood Trips, on the other hand, are conducted more frequently during a school term to venues within Sembawang, Yishun and Woodlands towns. Such trips take the children beyond the school/classroom settings to understand or immerse themselves to the theme that is being taught (example: a bus tour around Sembawang town during the My Neighbourhood theme.

Library Visits: Our Library Visits are compulsory and part of our Neighbourhood Trips. Frequent visits to the library are known to instill interest in learning and cultivate good reading habit in young children. The children learn how to conduct themselves in public places such as the library, mall or in a bus. We believe there are more to gain out of the Visits other than the many books, programmes and activities our library has to offer. We stated the dates of our Library Visits in the Calendar of Events & Themes for 2013. The visits in Term 1 and 2 will be on the following Wednesdays: 6 February, 6, 21 March, 10, 30 April, 19 June,

Library Visits will be conducted from 11:30am -1:30pm. If your child is in the half-day programme, do take note that we will be back at school by 2.00pm. We will re-confirm the exact times on the day of the Visits via SMS (schools mobile 82233784). We encourage you to provide your child with his or her very own library card should you wish for your child to borrow books. Furthermore, having his or her very own library card help him/her feels important and has a sense of ownership during the Library Visits. Please let us have your Consent Form by Monday, 4 February 2013. Written Communication Trumpets: We generate monthly Trumpets (Parents Info Update). In Trumpets, we inform you of the Schools or MSF updates (if any), or our school activities and those that all the schools children will carry out as a group. We also write (as reminders) our current weeks planned school activities on the window panel, learning objective(s) and outings/trips on the information/Parents boards at the dining/reception area. Stomps: We will return all childrens work at the end of each week/theme. In addition to the above Trumpets (monthly), Blog and Photobucket (periodically), we will generate Stomps (Learning Update) every end of the week, to update you on what your child learned during the week. In the Stomps (weekly) we will write briefly the following weeks planned lessons/school activities. We truly appreciate you return the childrens work to us by the next school day (i.e. Mondays).
