SitePreparation
TheContractorwillnotifyTTUSandcallTexasExcavationSafetySystem(DigTESS)18003448377or 811atleast48hourspriortostartofwork. GeotechnicalSurveysaretobedesignedanddirectedbytheprojectDesignProfessional.TheOwners Representativeshallwitnessallborings. Protectandmaintainbenchmarksandsurveycontrolpointsfromdisturbanceduringconstruction.Ifa benchmarkorsurveycontrolpointmustberemoved,establishasimilarcontrolusingaRegistered ProfessionalLandSurveyor. Removeobstructions,trees,shrubs,grass,andothervegetationforareasofnewconstruction. Completelyremovestumps,roots,obstructions,anddebrisinareasofnewconstruction. ExceptfortopsoiltobestockpiledortoremainOwner'sproperty,clearedmaterialsshallbecome Contractor'spropertyandshallberemovedfromthesite. TheTTUSshallretainanindependenttestingagencytoconductanycontractuallyrequiredtests.The TTUSshallpayfortheoriginaltests.Areasthatdonotmeetcontractdocumenttestrequirementsshall betestedagainuntilspecificationsaremet.TheContractorwillberesponsibleforallcostrelatedtore testingandbringingtheworkuptocontractstandards. Filldepressionscausedduringsitepreparationanddemolitionwithsatisfactorysoilmaterial,unless furtherexcavationorearthworkisindicated.Placefillmaterialinhorizontallayersnotexceeding8inch loosedepth,andcompacteachlayertoadensityspecifiedbytheDesignProfessional. TheDesignProfessionalshallspecifyplacementoffillandbackfillforconstruction. TheDesignProfessionalshallspecifycompactionrequirementsbasedonthegeotechnicalsurveyreport.

SiteDemolition
Beforebeginninganydemolitionwork,theContractorshallcarefullysurveytheexistingconditionsand examinetheDrawingsandSpecificationstodeterminetheextentofthework.TheContractorshall notifytheappropriateutilityownerandtheOwnersRepresentativeofhisintenttoremoveanyutility services.TheContractorshalltakeallnecessaryprecautionstoinsureagainstdamagetoexisting conditionstoremaininplace.Anydamagetosuchworkshallberepairedorreplacedasapprovedby theDesignProfessionalandOwnersRepresentativeatnoadditionalcost.TheContractorshallcarefully coordinatetheworkofthissectionwithallotherworkandconstructandmaintainshoring,bracing, Page1of22

Usesawcuttingmethodsforremovaloftunnelorvaultwalls,floorsorroofs.Donotuseimpact hammersfortunnelorvaultremovalneartunnelsectionstoremain.Usesawcuttingmethodsfor removalofconcretecurbsandpaving. Duringdemolitionoperationsandtheremovalofdebris,ensureminimuminterferencewith roadways,walks,andadjacentoccupiedorusedfacilities.Donotcloseorobstructroadways,walksor otheroccupiedorusedfacilitieswithoutpermissionfromtheOwnersRepresentativeandArchitect. ProvidealternateroutesaroundclosedorobstructedtrafficwaysifrequiredbytheArchitect,Owner,or governingregulations.Wherepedestriananddriversafetyareendangered,theContractorshallprovide sufficientsafetyprecautions. Existingutilitiesaretoremaininserviceandprotectedagainstdamageduringdemolitionoperations. Ifexistingutilitiesaretobeinterrupted,notifytheArchitectandOwnersRepresentativeatleast72 hoursinadvance.AllinterruptionsmustbeapprovedbyTTUS.

TreeProtection
Preventunnecessarydamageandmitigatetheeffectsofconstructiontotreeslocatedwiththe constructionzone.Preventdirectrootdamage,indirectrootdamage,andtrunkandcrown disturbances.Preventsoilcompactionofcriticalrootzoneasdefinedasthatareadirectly beneaththedriplineofthetreecanopy.Vehicles,equipmentandmaterialsshallnotbeparkedor storedinthecriticalrootzoneoftreestoremain.Providetreepreservationfencingaroundallexisting treestoremain.AlltreelimbandrootpruningshallbedoneatthediscretionoftheGrounds MaintenanceDepartmentoracertifiedarborist. Ifexistingtreesaredestroyed,killedorbadlydamagedasaresultofconstructionoperations,Contract sumwillbereducedbytheamountofassesseddamages.DamageswillbeevaluatedbyGrounds Maintenance,usingInternationalShadeTreeConferenceStandardsandfollowingformula: measurementofacrosssectionoftreetrunkwillbemadeatapoint2feetaboveexistinggradelevelto determinecrosssectionareainsquareinches.Assessmentfordamagewillbe$32.00persquareinch.

Excavation,Trenching,andBackfillingforUtilities

TestsshallbeperformedbyanindependentlaboratoryselectedbytheOwner.Onlypassingtestsshall bepaidforbytheOwner.TestresultsshallbesubmittedtotheDesignProfessionalforreview. Alltrenches12inchesorwider,asmeasuredatthetop,thatarewithinroadways,orroadwayrightof ways,parkingareas,andareastobepavedshallbetestedforconformancetocompactionrequirements asspecified.Thesetrenchesshallbebackfilledandcompactedtotheirfulldepthortobottomof concreteTcap.Testsshallbemadeevery100feetalongthepipeline,oraminimumofonetest,and to4footverticalintervalsthroughoutthebackfill.Teststakenin4footintervalsshallbestaggered. Contractorshallmaintainarecorddrawingprofileofalldepthtrenchtesting.Compactioninotherareas shallnotbelessthan90%oftheStandardProctorTestASTMD698.Testsinotherareasshallbeone testevery500feetwithintheupper4feetoffill. TheDesignProfessionalshallspecifybackfillrequirementsbasedongeotechnicalsurveys. TheContractorshallperformallexcavationtothedepthsshownontheDrawingsorasspecified.During excavation,materialssuitableforbackfillingshallbepiledasufficientdistancefromthebanksofthe excavationtoavoidoverloadingandtopreventslidesandcaveins.Excavatedmaterialsnotsuitableor requiredforfillorbackfillshallberemovedfromthesiteattheownersexpense.Allexcavationshall bemadebyopencut.NotunnelingshallbedoneunlessshownontheDrawings. AllexcavationsaretobeperformedinstrictaccordancewithOSHARegulations.Beforecommencing anytrenchexcavationthatwillexceedadepthoffivefeet,ContractorshallprovidetoTexasTechacopy ofanygeotechnicalinvestigationsusedforpreparationofdetailedDrawingsandSpecifications regardingthesafetysystemstobeutilized.TheContractorshallsubmitatrenchingplanthatisapproved andsealedbyaprofessionalengineerregisteredintheStateofTexasandemployedbytheContractor. SaidengineercannotbeanyonewhoisemployedonthisProjectbyTexasTech.Receiptoftheplanisa prerequisitetothestartoftrenching.ItistheContractorsresponsibilitytocomplywithanyadditional requirementsresultingfromanyprebidconferencerelatingtocoordinationofgeotechnical investigationsubjects. Erosion,SedimentationandDustControl
TheContractorshallestablish,constructandmaintainerosionandsedimentcontrolmeasures.Siltation controldevicesshallbeinstalledinthelocationsshownintheStormWaterPollutionPreventionPlan (SWPPP)beforeconstructionbegins.Theerosioncontrolstructuresshallbemaintaineduntilpermanent groundcoverisestablished.TheContractorwiththeadviceandconsultationoftheDesignProfessional shallendeavortostopallsedimentanderosiontoalevelofeffortacceptabletotheOwnerandDesign Professional. TheContractorshallexerciseprecautionarymeasurestominimizedustemissionswhichwillinclude,but shallnotbelimitedto,periodicsprinklingorwettingofthesite.TheContractorhastheoptionofusinga dustpalliative.

StormWaterPollutionPreventionPlan(SWPPP)
TheTexasTechStormWaterPollutionPreventionProgramrequirespreparationofaStormWater PollutionPreventionPlan(SW3P)foranyprojectthatcausesadisturbanceofsoilonanycampusofthe TexasTechUniversitySystem.Theplanwillincorporatemeasuresinresponsetoandensure compliancewiththetermsoftheTexasPollutionDischargeEliminationSystem(TPDES)GeneralPermit forStormDischargesfromConstructionActivities. TexasTechwillprovidetheconstructionContractorwithacompleteandcomprehensiveSW3P. TheContractorshallimplement,maintain,andkeepcurrenttheSW3P.TheContractorshallcomply withtheTexasCommissionforEnvironmentalQuality(TCEQ)GeneralPermitandsubmittoTCEQ48 hourspriortocommencementofsoildisturbingworkaTCEQNoticeofIntent(NOI)toobtainpermit coverage.DisplaytheNOIandtheConstructionSiteNoticewithappropriateinformationattheprime outsidesiteentrancetotheconstructionsiteandprovideacopyoftheNOItotheappropriate MunicipalSeparateStormSewerSystem(MS4)operator.ReplacetheNOIwiththeapprovedTCEQ permitwhenreceived.PriortocommencementofconstructionactivitiesprovideTexasTechcopiesof theNOIandConstructionSiteNoticeandprovideacopyofthepermit,whenreceived. TheContractorshall,atalltimes,keepacopyoftheSW3P,theConstructionSiteNotice,theNOI,and/or thePermitatthejobsite.TheContractorshallupdatetheSW3Pasnecessarytoreflectcurrentand changingsiteconditionsandkeepmaintenancelogs,inspectionreports,andrecordsrelatedto compliancewiththeSW3P. TheContractorshallconductinspectionsasrequiredbyTCEQGeneralPermitandtheSW3P,and maintaininspectionrecordsatthejobsite TheContractorshallsubmitaNoticeofChange(NOC)toTCEQwhenrequired. Uponcompletionofallsoildisturbingactivitiesatthesiteandestablishingauniformperennial vegetativecoverwithadensityof70%ofthenativebackgroundvegetativecoverfortheareahasbeen establishedontheunpavedareasandareasnotcoveredbypermanentstructures,orequivalent permanentstabilizationmeasures,theContractorshallnotifyTexasTechthatitintendstofilewith TCEQaNoticeofTermination(NOT)andprovidetoTexasTechacopyoftheproposedNOT.When approvedbyTexasTech,theContractorshallsubmittheNOTtoTCEQandprovideacopyTexasTech. ProvidecopiesororiginalsofallrecordsincludingtheSW3P,NOI,Permit,NOT,ConstructionSiteNotice, inspectionreports,maintenancelogsandrecordstoTexasTech. RefertoTTUOperatingPoliciesandProcedure60.07StormWaterComplianceProgramformore specifics.

TermiteTreatments
Effectivepreconstructiontreatmentforsubterraneantermitepreventionrequirestheestablishmentof completeverticalandhorizontalchemicalbarriersorapprovedphysicalbarriersbetweenwoodinthe structureandthetermitecoloniesinthesoil.Provideacontinuoussoiltreatmentzoneunderallnew construction.Coordinatesoiltreatmentapplicationwithexcavating,grading,andconcreteplacement Page5of22

ForHorizontalChemicalBarriers,applicationsshallbemadeusingalowpressuresprayaftergradingis completedandpriortothepouringoftheslaborfootingtoprovidethoroughandcontinuouscoverage oftheareabeingtreated. ForVerticalChemicalBarriers,establishverticalbarriersinareassuchasaroundthebaseof foundations,plumbinglines,backfilledsoilagainstfoundationwallsandotherareas,whichmaywarrant morethanjustahorizontalbarrier. ProvideandEPARegisteredtermiticide. Toxicantshallbeappliedpermanufacturerslabel.ProvideOwnerwithaSoilTreatmentApplication Report.Donotapplywhenweatherconditionsfavordriftfromtreatedarea. ApplicatorofsoiltreatmentshallbeaStateofTexaslicensedpestcontroloperatorintheTermite Categoryforaminimumoffive(5)years. ToxicantshallnotbeinjurioustoplantlifeandshallbeacceptedbytheEnvironmentalProtection AgencyandStateauthoritieshavingjurisdiction,includingTCEQ. Warrantbuildingandequipmenttobefreefrominfestationbysubterraneantermitesforaperiodof five(5)yearsfromDateofSubstantialCompletion.Shouldinfestationoccur,provideadditional treatmentasrequired,andrepairorreplacedamagedbuildingorequipmenttoitsoriginalcondition andreimplementtermitecontrolatnocosttoTTUS.

UtilityServices
Allburiedvalvesandfittingsshallbethoroughlywrappedpriortoinstallationwithapolyethylene materialmeetingtherequirementsofASTMD1248.Thepolyethylenematerialshallhaveaminimum thicknessof8mils.Thewrapshallbesecuredby2inchducttape. Concreteshallbeusedforthrustblockingthepipeandfittingsandshallconformtotheconcrete standardsassetforthinDivision3CastInPlaceConcrete.Theblockingshallbepouredagainstsolid undisturbedgroundorengineeredfill.Aminimumcompressivestrengthof3,000psiwillbeacceptable. TheContractorshalldisinfectallpotablepipelinesbeforebeingplacedinservice.Thelinesshallbe disinfectedbyusingachlorinatingagentinaccordancewiththerequirementsofAWWAC651andthe mostcurrenteditionoftheinternationalPlumbingCodeSection610.1.TheContractorshallnotifythe ArchitectandOwnersRepresentative72hoursinadvanceofdisinfectionsothattheArchitectand OwnersRepresentativemaywitnessthedisinfectionactivities.Afterdisinfectionhasbeencompleted Page6of22

TTUSFP&CDesign&BuildingStandards Division2SiteWork andthepipeisflushed,theContractorshallperformabacteriologicaltest.Samplesshallbetakenafter thepipelinedisinfectiontreatmenthasbeenflushed.Aminimumoftwosetsofsamplestaken24hours apartshallbetestedandshallincludeonsampleforevery1000feetofwaterlineplussamplesetsat theendofeachpipelinebranch.Ifacceptablebacteriologicaltestresultsarenotreceived,the Contractorshalldisinfectthepipeagainandprovidewhatevermeasuresnecessarytoachieveand acceptableresult.Acceptableresultsshallbethebacteriologicalrequirementsforpotablewateras definedbytheTexasCommissiononEnvironmentalQuality.Chlorinetabletsarenotacceptablefor disinfectingprocedures.Superchlorination(over200ppm)isnotallowedunlessapprovedbyTTUS.

AsphaltPaving
Theasphaltpavingshouldbespecified,constructed,andtestedtomeetthefollowingrequirements: 1. HotMixAsphalticConcretePavementTexasDepartmentofTransportation(TxDOT)Item340, TypeCorD,mostcurrentspecification.MixingandPlacingpracticesbytheAsphaltInstitutein theirpublication,MS22,PrinciplesofConstructionofHotMixAsphaltPavements,current edition. 2. HotMixAsphalticConcreteBaseTxDOTItem340,mostcurrentspecification, 3. FlexibleBaseMaterialTxDOTItem247,mostcurrentspecification. DesignmixshouldbespecifiedbasedonPerformanceGrade(PG)specificationforasphaltbindergrades usedinhotmixasphalt(HMA)fortheLubbockareaandapprovedbyTTUGroundsMaintenance.All asphaltshallbeaPerformanceGradePG6428orbetter.Forparkinglots,aminimumofPG6428Type Dasphaltwillbespecified.ForroadwaysSpecifyTypeCasphaltandthePerformanceGradewillbe specifiedbytheDesignProfessionalwithapprovalfromtheFP&CDesignTeamandTTUGrounds Maintenance. Ifsealcoatingisspecified,forparkinglotsealcoating,aminimumofTxDOTTier2(mediumtraffic)will bespecified,andforroadwayssealcoating,TxDotTier1(heavytraffic)willbespecified. Thethicknessofthepavementsectionelementsshallberecommendedbythegeotechnicalconsultant basedonsoilconditionsandanticipatedtrafficloadings.ThethicknessofHMACsurfaceshallbea minimumof(2)inches. Specifytofurnishandprovideallthesubmittals,labor,materialsandequipmentnecessarytodeliver, placeandcompactHotMixAsphaltConcrete(HMAC)pavementincludingprimecoatandtackcoatsas shownanddetailedontheDrawings. Materials,parametersandmethodsshallbeinbasicconformancewiththeTxDotStandard SpecificationsforConstructionofHighways,StreetsandBridges,latesteditionandapplicableASTM standards. Page7of22

Coarseaggregatematerialtobesound,angularcrushedstonecomplyingwithASTMD692. FineaggregatematerialshallcomplywithASTMD1073. HMACmaterialsshallbehauledintruckspreviouslycleanedofalldirtandforeignmaterialwiththeload completelycovered. HMACmaterialsshallbedeliveredsothatHMACcanbeplacedandrolledduringdaylighthours. Verifythatthesubgradeisdryandinsuitableconditiontosupportpavingandimposedloads. Immediatelybeforeplacingasphaltmaterials,removelooseanddeleteriousmaterialfromsubstrate surfaces.Sweeploosegranularparticlesfromsurfaceofunboundaggregatebasecourse.Donot dislodgeordisturbaggregateembeddedincompactedsurfaceofbasecourse.Ensurethatprepared subgradeisreadytoreceivepaving. TheOwnermayengageaqualifiedindependenttestingagencytoperformfieldinspectionsandtests, andtopreparetestreports.WhensuchtestingindicatesthatContractorsworkdoesnotcomplywith thespecifiedrequirements,additionaltestingshallbeperformedbytheOwnerstestingagencyatno additionalcosttotheOwnertodeterminecomplianceofcorrectedWorkwiththespecified requirements.OwnersmaterialtestinglabsamplingatasphaltmixingplantsoutsideofLubbockCounty willbepaidforbytheContractor.

ConcretePaving
Allconcreteproductsshallbedesigned,formed,transported,placed,tested,andfinishedinstrict accordancewiththeAmericanSocietyforTestingandMaterials(ASTM)andtheAmericanConcrete Institutes(ACI)requirements. BatchdesignmixwillbespecifiedbytheDesignProfessional.Manufacturersbatchingmixtureand reinforcementcertificate(whenapplicable)mustbeapprovedbytheDesignProfessionalandOwners Representativepriortoinstallation. ManufacturermustbecertifiedaccordingtotheNationalReadyMixedConcreteAssociation's CertificationofReadyMixedConcreteProductionFacilities.Deliveryticketsshallbefurnishedwitheach Page8of22

Indicateamountsofmixwatertobewithheldforlateradditionatprojectsite. Protectfreshlyplacedconcretefromprematuredryingandexcessivecoldorhottemperatures.Comply withACI306.1forcoldweatherprotectionandwithrecommendationsinACI305Rforhotweather protectionduringcuring. Providefibermeshconcretesidewalkstothefollowingcriteria: 1.CompressiveStrength:4000psi. 2.Slump:3to5inches. 3.AirEntrained:5.0percentmaximum.(1%) Provideconcretepavingwithsteelreinforcementforroadwaystothefollowingcriteria: 1.CompressiveStrength:4000psi. 2.Slump:3to5inches. 3.AirEntrained:5.0percentmaximum.(1%) 4.SteelReinforcementperDesignProfessionalsspecification. Provideconcretefinishingtothefollowingcriteria: 1.ConcretePaving:Heavybroomfinish. 2.SidewalkPaving:Lightbroom,radiusto3/8inchradius,andtroweljointedges. 3.DirectionofTexturing:Transversetodirectionoftraffic. 4.Placecuringcompoundonexposedconcretesurfacesimmediatelyafterfinishing.Applyin accordancewithmanufacturer'sinstructions.Provideadditionalcuringmethodsinharsh weatherasdirectedbytheArchitect. Pedestrianwalkwayswillbeprovidedonthecampusinavarietyofscalesdependingupontheirlocation anduserequirements.Majorpedestrianwalkwaysshallbebetweenfourteenfeetandtwentyfeetin width.Minorpedestrianwalkwayswillbetweeneightfeetandtwelvefeetinwidth. TestingofcompositesamplesoffreshconcreteobtainedaccordingtoASTMC172shallbeperformed accordingtothefollowingrequirements: 1.TestingFrequency:Obtainonecompositesampleforeachday'spourofeachconcretemix exceeding5cu.yd.,butlessthan25cu.yd.,plusonesetforeachadditional50cu.yd.or fractionthereof. 2.Slump:ASTMC143;onetestatpointofplacementforeachcompositesample,butnotless thanonetestforeachday'spourofeachconcretemix.Performadditionaltestswhen concreteconsistencyappearstochange. 3.AirContent:ASTMC231,pressuremethod,fornormalweightconcrete;ASTMC173, volumetricmethod,forstructurallightweightconcrete;onetestforeachcompositesample, butnotlessthanonetestforeachday'spourofeachconcretemix.
