SXSW and Lolla certified bands + DJ driven dance parties + Raffle for a deserving non‐profit =
a really good reason to hang up any winter‐induced reclusiveness, rally friends and dance
Five bands, one DJ, and a charity raffle offer easy incentive to head to Double Door (1572 N.
Milwaukee Avenue) on Saturday, May 2, for an extended night of music, dancing, coffee,
booze, raffles, condoms, food, and more. Tickets are $18 in advance, and $20 at the door.
This mini‐music festival starts the night early, with doors opening at 5:30. DJ Brad Owen, for‐
merly the music director of Smart Bar and a regular DJ at prime venues throughout Chicago,
will kick off the night right at 5:30 and will also provide a great mix of indie/dance/rock music
during the half‐hour time slots between each band. {pg2}
Right at 6:00 the night’s first band, Coltrane Motion of Chicago, will take the stage ‐ proving
the night is all about good music. This high‐energy duo will immediately establish an atmos‐
phere of big sound, processed beats, and pulsating rhythms that’s sure to not end until Brad
Owen closes the night 8 hours later. {pg5}
After Coltrane Motion, The Seedy Seeds of Cincinnati, Ohio, will take the stage at 7:15 with a
completely original sound and presentation, including banjo, accordion and toy keyboard
beats. The Seedy Seeds played SXSW in March, 2008. {pg4}
Following The Seedy Seeds and hitting the stage at 8:30 is a rising indie‐electronic sensation
from Nashville, TN ‐ Kyle Andrews. His latest album, Real Blasty, is hailed as a “successfully
sunny slice of digital modernism.” Kyle Andrews played SXSW in March, 2008. {pg4}
Chicago’s very own Loyal Divide follows Kyle Andrews at 10:00. There’s no denying the fast
track of growing fans and recognition Loyal Divide has received in 2009 alone. Their live set is a
unique visual and audio experience that’s a definite must‐feel. Loyal Divide played SXSW in
March, 2008. {pg3}
The headlining act of the night, Office, recently relocated from Chicago to Michigan, and we’re
excited to bring them back! After completing their latest album, Mecca, in January 2009, Of‐
fice’s horde of devoted fans await the experience to hear songs off this well‐received, handclap
inducing album full of driven melodies and big downbeats. They will hit the stage at 11:30, and
DJ Brad Owen will keep the tempo moving from 12:30‐1:30. Office played SXSW in March,
2008, and Lollapalooza in 2007 and 2008. {pg3}
Besides good music, there will also a raffle benefiting Inspiration Corporation at the event.
Inspiration Corporation provides people throughout Chicago that are affected by homelessness
and poverty with essential social services that encourage self‐sufficiency. Although Inspiration
Corporation had nothing to do with planning this event, why gather so many good folks to‐
gether to listen to good music without helping out a good organization? I couldn’t think of a
good reason either… {pg2}

Office achieved cult‐status in the last few years, particularly in
the Chicago indie rock community, promoting a sound that has
been described by Spin as "handclaps and sunny harmonies," which is
ironically the opposite of what the band writes about.
Since their album Q&A reached 14 on the iTunes album charts in 2006, the
band has performed shows at the South by Southwest music festival in
2006, 2007 and 2008, CMJ, Mobfest, Midwest Music Conference, two sets
at Lollapalooza, and many more high‐profile showcases.
Their latest album, Mecca (2009), is available for free to download on the
band’s MySpace page. As reviewed by Windy City Rock:
“Mecca sets an ever‐bobbing “[Scott] Masson and company could have

guitar riffs that surf along the tide the catchy new wave‐inspired hooks, top‐

"Mecca" is a damn good record.”

There remains one true payoff for a musician‐
the release of performance. Chicago's Loyal
Divide understands this well.
Truly a live act, Loyal Divide knows how to produce electric‐
ity from frustration—frustration with poverty, each other,
and the road. The band looks forward to only one thing:
leaving all the sludge behind for a brief moment of on‐stage
communion, in turn strengthening their bond and legitimiz‐
ing their hard work. Eventually, Loyal Divide hopes to join
the ranks of music's most forward thinking luminaries ‐
artists like Talk Talk, Can, and Radiohead‐ those who push
boundaries while captivating listeners, and whom trade in
conformity for vision and nuance.

Though Nashville might be known for its coun‐

next big star to put it on the map.
