TFFC 8-0 Steau Needarest C.Wood (4) T. Froggatt (2) T. Hall T.

Parsons TFFC Batter Basement Boys After last weeks lacklustre result over 5th placed Paul Amphlett FC, TFFC knew that they couldnt be complacent for this weeks game. Todays visitors to Goodwin Pitch 2 were Steau Needarest, who were looking for their first league win of the season. Preparation for the match couldnt have been worse as Critchell-Ward had left the country unannounced without the clubs permission. Meaning, with TFFC down to a bare 5, Froggatt, who was suffering from gastroenteritis, stepped up to make an appearance. Parsons was also suffering from illness in the pre-match warm-up. As the game kicked off TFFC played with the right tempo, causing their opposition all sorts of problems, nearly scoring in the 1st minute. TFFC were dominating play and Needarest never really got into TFFCs half. After a string of good saves by the Needarest keeper, TFFC finally took the league with a good passing move was culminated with Wood turning this man and firing, right footed, through the keeper with 7 minutes played. As the game kicked off it carried on in the same way, with TFFC having all the territory, possession and chances, but struggling to find that goal that would kill off their opposition. The game was essentially put to bed in the 15th minute, when another good break by TFFC saw Hall side foot into the corner. After this goal, play became a bit slower so it seemed apparent that illness in the TFFC camp was having an affect on their play now. However, any worries on a Needarest come back were soon gone. A defensive mistake saw Edmond steal possession by heading it across to Wood, who volleyed, right footed, into the top corner for his 50th goal for TFFC in his 39th appearance. Wood soon got his deserved hat trick 3 minutes later with a well placed shot through the Needarest keepers legs, making the score 4-0 with 16 minutes to play. Substitutions were becoming a big part of the TFFC tactics, especially with Froggatt only being able to play for a couple of minutes at a time, although he made a big impact on the game. After such a substitution, the ball was rolled out from the back to Froggatt, who skipped past Needarests striker, sprinted down the right wing, outpacing the Needarest defence before calmly placing the ball into the far corner, making the score 5-0, much to the dismay of the Needarest keeper. After such a fine solo effort, he was o nce again subbed, having deserved another rest. It was next time for Parsons to finally get himself on the score-sheet just a few minutes later with a great burst of pace down the centre of the park seeing him intercept the ball in front of goal, and with one touch, put it into the net for 6-0 with 8 minutes to go. With Needarests head down play for far too easy for TFFC who were playing beautiful passing triangles across the park, seeing Froggatt bagged his 2nd of the game, latching onto a great through ball. Now, with the game in its final minutes and Needarest consigned to this defeat, TFFC were happy to hold onto the ball, and run the clock down, occasionally playing on the break. With 2 minutes to go, Wood broke down the centre of the field, and seeing his attempt at nut-megging the keeper saved, Parsons was in support and latched onto the rebound, only to unselfishly square the ball back to Wood to pass into the open net, making the score 8-0. Even with the clock nearly up, TFFC still were in the ascendancy looking for another goal, which saw Edmond blaze a shot out of the stadium on the full time whistle. The TFFC fans will be happy with the clinical display that their team put on, although questions will be asked of Critchell-Wards commitment to the club, after leaving the country without the clubs knowledge or permission. In an interview, Wood, on scoring his 50th goal for the club, said That was for the fans who believed in me. We have played with a lot of heart today and a special mention must be said about Mouse (Froggatt), whos come through illness to score 2 great goals for us today.. With TFFC carrying a 5 point advantage with 4 games to go (3 with their 2 nearest rivals) all eyes will be looking at keeping up this momentum. For the time being though, the

TFFC players will be enjoying a well deserved break from action until their next game away again Ged Zeplin on the 13th of May. Teamsheet: Whittingham (GK), Edmond, Wood, Parsons, Hall, Froggatt
