UTILISATION OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY ( BEX 42803 ) Assignment # 1 Date: 26th Mac, 2013

Q1. Table Q1(i) shows the connected load for a new constructed single-storey semidetached house. The incoming supply is taken from 240 VLN, 50 Hz. (i) Analyse the maximum demand for this domestic installation. Consider 70% of diversity factor (ii) Recommend the proper rating of RCCB and main switch. Refer to TABLE Q1(ii) (iii) Determine the proper rating of each MCB used if the wiring rule is restricted to the followings (refer to TABLE Q1(ii)): one outgoing MCB serving 10 lighting/ fan point one outgoing MCB serving 3 SSO 13 A/ 15 A one outgoing MCB serving 1 air conditioning/ water heater point TABLE Q1(i) No. Load Type 1 Down light point (Take 100 W per Nos) 2 Wall light point (Take 60 W per Nos) 3 Ceiling fan point (Take 100 W per Nos) 4 SSO 13 A (Take 300 W per Nos) 5 SSO 15 A (Take 500 W per Nos) 6 1.5 kW water heater point 7 Air conditioning point (1 h.p.) 8 Air conditioning point (2 h.p.) TABLE Q1(ii) Type of Protective Device MCB RCCB/ Main switch Standard Rating (A) 1, 3, 6, 10, 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 63 40, 63 Quantity (Nos) 13 2 6 14 3 2 2 1

Q2. A medium voltage industrial consumer having the following data for its monthly electricity bill: TABLE Q2(i) Time (Hour) Electricity Consumption per Reactive Power Consumption per

8.00am 12.00pm 12.00pm 5.00pm 5.00pm 8.00pm 8.00pm 10.00pm 10.00pm 5.00am 5.00am- 8.00am

month (kWh) 40,765 43,654 65,654 43,781 22,546 54,758

month (kVArh) 65,456 45,811 78,976 47,657 35,678 65,044

The monthly load factor is assumed to be 71% Bill date: 1 December 2012 Days of outstanding payment = 8 days The penalty charge will be imposed if payment is made later than 30 days after the bill date (The amount is calculated based on 1% (simple interest) of the outstanding bill amount, multiplied by the number of outstanding payment days divided by the total days in that particular month.) The tariff rate (Tariff E2s TNB) is shown in TABLE Q2(ii). By considering 30 days per month, obtain the following: (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) Cost of electricity due to KWH consumed Cost of electricity due to Maximum Demand Cost of power factor penalty if any Cost of late payment Total payment made Unit RM/kW Sen/kWh Sen/kWh Rates 27.70 28.30 16.10

TABLE Q2(ii) (a) Tariff E2s (Special Industrial Tariff) For each kilowatt of maximum demand per month For all kWh during peak hour For all kWh during off peak hour The minimum monthly charge is RM600.00 Off-peak hours (10.00 p.m. to 8.00 a.m.) every day (b) Power Factor Penalty Rate Below 0.85 and up to 0.75 lagging Below 0.75 lagging, in addition to the charge payable under sub-paragraph (a) above

1.5% of the bill for that month for each one hundredth (0.01) A supplementary charge of 3% of the bill for that month for each one-hundredth (0.01)

Q3. A 225 kVA, 11 kV/415V, threephase transformer has a resistance of 1.5% and a reactance of 3.5%. The actual load on the transformer is 150 kVA @ 0.9 lagging power factor. Determine the voltage drop at the specified load condition in volts and percent.
