In the prelim task we had the opportunity to get to grips with editing and camerawork.

Our brief was to have a character open a door, walk into a room, sit down and have a conversation. We began with the establishing shot of the school, this shows the audience where the interaction is taking place. The next shot they see is a medium long shot showing the school setting and the main character which pans as he walks. We dressed him in a white shirt and a leather jacket to create a rebellious image of the character

This is then followed by match on action which was one of the required shots as he opens the door. We found it time consuming to get the shots looking natural and continuous as he opens the door. It begins with a mid-shot of him going towards the headmasters door, which is earlier shown by a zooming close up. After this there is then a much closer shot focusing on the hand as he opens the door to the office.

As he sits down in the room, the camera is angled down at him. This was done to show that he is in trouble so has no power. It makes him seem less intimidating and can also allow the audience to empathise with him.

A mid shot of the Head teacher sitting down allows establishment of the character. He is smartly dressed in a white shirt and a black tie to show authority. It is also an over the shoulder shot which again allows empathy from the audience to the character in the jacket.

The shot changes when it comes to using shot reverse shot as the characters begin to speak. This was to allow the audience to see the reactions and expressions of the characters more easily. We kept to the 180 degree rule as well so as not to confuse the audience.

The music is also turned down to allow clarity for the conversation going on without there being silence. This was to keep the pace of the video.

The teachers voice begins to fade out along with the music and a slow zoom in on the characters face shows that he is beginning to daydream instead of listen to the lecture given.

A ripple effect and a sepia tint of the footage signifies a change as the characters daydream begins. The music also stops as the effect ends.

The music begins when the teacher starts juggling. It is a different track to the other one as it is a stereotypical circus fanfare. The clown costume and the juggling are surreal and out of place in the situation the characters are in which shows how it must be a daydream.

Props such as the flowers that appear and the juggling balls were also used to continue to concept of a circus. We used the same shots as those in the real life situation where the character is being told off. This was to keep the idea of his daydream being within the constraints of what was really happening and thinning the line between dream and reality. Match on action is used again when the flowers are passed from the teacher to the main character.

The same ripple effect is used again to show that the character is exiting his day dream.

The music stops as soon as the effect ends and the tint is removed with it to so the sudden change as the character snaps back into reality.
