7400 Computers are on a 5-year replacement cycle in FCPS, however, 18 of the computers purchased 12 years ago have not been replaced. Because the 30 new computers inside the library lab are used strictly for testing, the library is in need of additional computers to support instruction and research. Computers are in high demand time due to the change in how instruction is delivered at AHS: Emphasis on computer-mediated testing (SOLs, PALS, eCarts, jLabs) and assignments. Due to the lack of physical space, laptops are highly recommended. Computers equipped with multimedia production capabilities are needed to support curricular and extracurricular needs 11000 of students. As of February 2013 when our cash box was stolen, we have stopped taking money from students for printing. The enhancement is to 500 purchase additional printing paper and cartridges. 32700 In order to become lifelong learners who can efficiently and effectively find, evaluate, and use information, our students must have access to a variety of technological resources. Students are expected to be digital literate, which is defined as "using digital technology, communications tools and/or networks to access, manage, integrate, evaluate and create information in order to function in a knowledge society" Harada, V., Hughes-Hassell, S. (2007). Facing the reform challenge: Teacher-librarians as change agents. Teacher Librarian, 35(2), 8-13.
