3. Activity - Students will work with their shoulder partner to write a list of questions they would like to ask a police officer. These questions will be used on Day 4 during our visitation field trip. F. CLOSURE: Have students discuss with their shoulder partner one thing they learned about police officers today. Ask several students for their response and list them on the L part of the K-W-L chart. G. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? Students will do a Ticket Out and write two ways police officers help the community. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students must Identify and describe occupations in the community that help people, i.e., police officers, fire fighters, and nurses. Doing the Ticket Out shows that students understand the concepts taught in this lesson. H. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think reading the book and discussing it will be the easiest to teach. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I think the activity in which the students make a list of questions for a police officer will be the most challenging because at this age, their writing and spelling skills are limited. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? As an extension to this lesson, I will have a police officer come in and speak to my class. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts?
