(TE 203) How is your school like a one-room school house? How is it different? (TE 204) What are some of the school tools students used long ago? (TE 204) Why is it important to go to school?

3. Have students draw a two column chart on a piece of paper comparing a one-room school to a school today while reading along with the text. 4. Have a group discussion about whether they think school was easier or harder in the past. (TE 204). At this time students can complete their vocabulary and study guide (Unit Resources, p.64). 5. CLOSURE: Discuss the two main points under Lesson Review (p. 205). What does education mean? What do you think it was like at school long ago? F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will use the two-column chart and the vocabulary and study guide to check for understanding of the differences between schools long ago. I will also use formative assessment during discussions with the class to know if students understand the lesson. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students should be able to identify and recognize schools long ago. If the students can complete their two-column worksheet comparing school long ago, I will know they can identify and recognize schools long ago. If students can complete their study guide I will know they can identify and recognize school from the past. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think it will be easy to have a discussion with the students about what is different about schools today and before. Our schools are so completely different from schools long ago that I think it will be easy for them to come up with ideas that make our schools different. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? It might be hard for the students to find the similarities between the two different kinds of school. I know they can tell what is different but students will have to think about what makes them the same. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I could follow this up with an art lesson. I could ask students to draw a classroom today with tools we use now and then draw a classroom from long ago.

4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For students who dont grasp the concept, we can explore pictures from the internet of classrooms long ago. I could also bring in a clip from an old TV show that has a school house. We can talk about the different things seen in the classroom. It might be easier for students to see differences than just read about them. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I think its a pretty basic lesson plan; I wouldnt change anything about it. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? I have never written lesson plans for grades lower than three so for me the hardest part was sticking to the level of difficulty. I wanted to add more creative writing parts to the lesson but I didnt realize a first grader would have a difficult time writing that much. It makes you think about different activities to incorporate instead of just writing prompts.
