Title of Lesson: Landmarks around the world

Tell about and read the descriptions of the landmarks. Refer to the globe or map to show location of the landmark and to show where it is in relation to our country, city & state. Use the pointer stick to pinpoint the locations. Answer questions the students have. 3. Show the powerpoint presentation. Continue to talk about the landmarks and ask open ended questions about them and what they might mean to the native people or the state/country. F. CLOSURE: Finish with a brief review of powerpoint again; no need to read about them again, pause at the photo and identify the landmark and where it located. G. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will provide the Around the World worksheet to measure student ability to identify landmarks around the world. Students will be placed into groups of 4 or 5 and given a set of the powerpoint landmark pictures to complete the assessment together. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students will be talking about and discussing the assessment and photos. They will complete the assigned assessment sheet by matching the correct landmark to the description. The students will understand the concept by identifying landmarks. H. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think the easiest part of the lesson will be the powerpoint and website presentation. During this time the students are watching and thinking of questions. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? The most challenging part may be answering some questions about the landmarks such as how did it get there. I could keep the internet open and do a quick search to help answer those questions that I dont have an answer for. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I would possibly extend this lesson by having students create (clay, dough, draw, paint) a model of a landmark of their choice. Students would need to give a minispeech to the class about the landmark. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts?

Title of Lesson: Landmarks around the world

For the students who dont understand, I would review the vocabulary and the assessment with the student. I would break it down piece by piece as to what a landmark is and give the example. Explain that there are reasons for landmarks and that people hold memories and feelings for them. I would have the student reflect on an experience of a trip to a known public place and try to use that to connect to the lesson. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I might add coloring sheets of the landmarks for fun for the students after the assessment. This was a lot of information for them to take in. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The most difficult part was deciding upon how to assess the students. The next most difficult part was putting the powerpoint together. A lot of time was spent researching and deciding on which landmarks to include as there were so many to choose from. From there, a lot of time was spent collecting information and photographs to build the presentation piece. This lesson was a bit challenging as I could not find much by the way of lessons or teaching resources designed for 1st grade. Most of what I found (lesson & assessment) was geared for 3rd grade and up. I did not think I could modify or blend it in well enough to be an appropriate learning level for 1st grade minds.
