What are children’s rights?

1. The right to survival - to life, health, nutrition, name and nationality

2. The right to development - to education, care, leisure, recreation

3. The right to protection - from exploitation, abuse, neglect

4. The right to participation - to expression, information, thought and religion

Childhood in India
• Under-nourished

– Every second Indian child is malnourished

– At 95/1000 India’s infant mortality rate is among the highest in the

world

• Under-educated

– 50% of India’s children (6-18 years) do not go to school

– Only 53% of habitations can access primary schools

• Discriminated against

– On an average, 75% of Indian women are underage when married

– 1 in 6 girl children won’t survive her 12th birthday due to

discrimination and neglect

• Health

– 10000 children in India die every day due to preventable diseases like
diarrhoea, malaria etc.

– Exploitation

– 1 in 6 girls die before they turn 12

– 5.3 Million child sex worker

– At least 11 million live on the streets

– 3 million girls killed at birth each year

– 54% of girls drop out by Class VIII

Volunteerism is the lifeline of CRY since it was begun with 7 young

volunteers

 PARTNERSHIP:

At CRY, we do not believe in charity. Nor do we run schools, orphanages or

dispensaries. Instead we partner grassroots-level organisations working with
children, their parents and communities.

(A) individuals and development organisations working at grassroots-level with
marginalised children, their families and communities, AND
(B) people like you, coming together from all walks of life who believe in the rights
of children. ***]

1. Marketing in colleges for volunteers

• Giving presentations in colleges to motivate the students and to enroll
them as volunteers in CRY.

• Starting CRY chapter in each college.

2. Corporate marketing
• Giving presentations in various corporate companies.

• Approaching small companies for fund generation.

• Inviting corporate people for CRY membership.

• Marketing the online module.

• Promotion of CRY and its activities through online groups.

Tracking of news regarding violation of child rights.

– Gathering information regarding facilities in local primary schools
– Collecting information about child labor in your locality
– Capturing pictures and videos about child rights

a. Applying management approach to motivate volunteers.
b. Approaching children in a creative manner to make them realize
the importance of education.
c. Developing new methods to motivate children.

a. Writing articles on Child rights & sustainable development.
b. Collecting articles from the net.
 c. Publishing the same in local newspapers.

5. No hard and fast rule

There is no hard and fast rule that you need to do these things
only in any manner you think you can help to protect child rights is
welcome the only condition is that it should meet the MISSION of CRY.
