Installation

1. Unpack the meter, power supply, conductivity sensor, electrode arm, standard sachets, Guide Book and calibration certificate. Keep the calibration certificate in a safe place. 2. Check the power supply unit is the correct voltage for your local supply. If it is not, contact your distributor. 3. Attach the electrode arm to the left or righthand side of the meter: a. Turn the meter upside down and seat the dome of the electrode arm base into the left or righthand meter recess.

b. Insert and tighten the fixing screw. c. Turn the meter and base the right way up and locate the electrode arm onto the base fixing post. Press down to snap into place.

Measuring Samples
1. Select conductivity or TDS mode

If you press Mode to select conductivity or TDS mode the MC226 begins measuring immediately. You will not need to press Read to start the reading. The decimal point flashes during sample measurement. When the sensor output has stabilized the stability indicator appears. Manual endpoint - press Read to endpoint. Auto endpoint - the MC226 automatically endpoints. If you have the RS232 cable connected to the Data socket, sample data is transmitted at endpoint.

Using Auto Endpoint

The auto read feature can be used in conductivity and TDS mode to automatically determine a stable endpoint during calibrations and sample measurements. Press A . The display shows the auto endpoint indicator . The display will freeze automatically when a stable endpoint is reached. To manually freeze the display press Read. To turn auto endpoint off press A again.

When measuring, make sure the solution is above the cell chamber slot. Make sure the cell chamber is free of bubbles when measuring. To reduce air bubbles, immerse the sensor at an angle and then raise to the vertical position. Rinse sensor with distilled water between measurements, and after use. Do not use solutions after the expiry date. For greatest accuracy, standards and samples should be at the same temperature. For greatest accuracy, calibrate using a standard close in value to the sample. To prevent static damage to the MC226 avoid touching the cell chamber area of the sensor. Always disconnect the sensor from the MC226 meter before cleaning.

Using the Memory

Entering a Reading into Memory
The MC226 can store 10 endpointed results. Press M when the measurement has endpointed. M 1 is displayed (or M 2 to M 10 if readings have already been stored). M indicates the memory is full.

Clearing all Memories

Press R then press R again until M C is displayed. Press M to clear the memories (press Read to exit without clearing the memories).

Using Continuous Data Transfer

In continuous data transfer mode readings are sent to the Data socket approximately every second. If the measurement endpoints (manually, or using auto endpoint) data transfer stops. To select continuous data transfer mode press and hold R for 2 seconds.
n

Recalling Memory
You can only recall stored memories if the current measurement has endpointed. Press R - the last stored memory is displayed. Press R to scroll through memories. RM 1 to RM 10 indicates which memory is being displayed.

To maintain continuity of sample readings calibration data is only output at endpoint.

Clearing last Memory

Press R - the last stored memory is displayed. Press M to clear this memory. Only the last entered measurement can be cleared, e.g. M 2 cannot be cleared without first clearing M 3.

Program Menu
The Program Menu allows you to set solids factor; reference temperature; temperature coefficient and TDS units. You can only enter the Program Menu if the current measurement has endpointed - press Read if necessary. Press and hold the Mode key for 2 seconds to access the Program Menu appears. Press Mode to scroll through the options and press M and R to change the value. Press Read to exit the Program Menu at any time. If you press Read when a value is flashing that value will not be entered. Solids Factor P1 The solids factor is the ratio of TDS (ppm or mg/L) to conductivity ( S/cm) and can be set between 0.40 and 1.00. The MC226 has a preset solids factor of 0.50. Change the value using M and R . Press Mode to enter the value and move on.

Reference Temperature The temperature to which measurements are referenced can be set to 20 or 25C. The MC226 has a preset reference temperature of 25C. Change the temperature using M and R . Press Mode to enter the value and move on. Temperature Coefficient P3 Conductivity measurements change with temperature. The temperature coefficient (%/C) is a measure of this change and can be set between 0.0 and 10.0. The MC226 has a preset temperature coefficient of 2.0C. Change the coefficient using M and R . Press Mode to enter the value and move on. TDS Units P4 TDS can be measured in mg/L or ppm. (The MC226 auto ranges to g/L or ppt). Change the units using M and R . Press Mode to enter the units and move on. Press Read to exit the Program Menu.

Interfacing
Serial Output
The MC226 can interface with computers, printers (GA42), Acquire Data Acquisition software and other RS232 compatible devices via the RS232 cable. The maximum source or sink current available is 10mA.

Maintenance
There are no user replaceable parts in the meters or power supply unit. Do not remove the covers. The MC226 requires very little maintenance. Occasionally wipe the meter with a damp cloth. The casework is made of ABS/PC which is known to be affected by some organic solvents, including toluene, xylene and methyl-ethyl-ketone. It is good practice to wipe away any spillages as soon as they occur. Sensor Maintenance CAUTION: To prevent static damage to the MC226 always disconnect the conductivity sensor from the meter before cleaning the sensor. Refer to the conductivity sensor product insert for full details on maintaining your sensor.

Data Entry Errors

Entered solids factor value changes to 0.40 or 1.00 - the MC226 will not accept solids factors outside this range. Entered temperature coefficient value changes to 0.0 or 10.0 - the MC226 will not accept temperature coefficients outside this range.
