2. b) What are the roles of teacher in creating a conducive classroom?

Conducive classroom in generally are classrooms with soothing nature. It refers to the mood and atmosphere inside any class that motivates students to participate actively in learning and to be engaged in classroom activities. Undeniably, teachers is a key figure in any classroom; ensuring the conductivity of a classroom itself. In fact, they are a key figure in any education system. They play vital roles in creating a classroom environment. In this essay, the writer will focus on the roles of teacher in creating a conducive classroom in the aspect of classroom management through the element of classroom discipline, classroom motivation and classroom control.

Firstly, the teacher must be able to govern the discipline of the students in their classroom. Good discipline will ensure good environment. When student behave well, then surely everybody will be happy; there is no need to fear and there will be no annoying noises that distract everyone in the classroom which will result in a conducive classroom. Thus, it is important for any teacher to be able to govern the discipline of a classroom. Skinners behaviourism theorys proposes the usage of reinforcement as a possible solution for creating a good discipline amongst student. According to Skinner, students behaviour can be shaped through repeated behaviour and reinforcement. Thus, the usage of reinforcement; positive and negative, will help a teacher in governing the overall discipline in a classroom. When a student does well, the teacher will offer them praises and rewards that will motivate them to do better. However, when they behave badly in a class, the teacher will have to punish them in order to make it clear to them that their behaviour is unacceptable. When practised repeatedly, the student will eventually become aware of their choices and its consequences. Therefore, they will be aware that by being bad they will be given negative reinforcement while positive reinforcement will be given to them if they behave well. When students know how to behave, then surely there will be no disciplinary problem occurring in a class and student will be able to learn in a calm, stress-free environment.

Secondly, the teacher must be able to motivate their student in order to create a conducive environment in a classroom. In order to study better, student need to be able to enjoy the learning session with least distraction. The lesson must be fun, interactive and never bores

the student. Asides that, the teacher must be empathy, knowing their students well and what are happening with them at all time. Maintaining student-teacher relationship is very much needed in any conducive classroom as good relationship will build trust. The trust built from teacherstudent relationship will be the foundation of a conducive environment. Therefore, motivation depends very much on the teacher itself; how they prepare the lesson, how they treat the student as well as their personality. A teacher needs to be humane in order to successfully motivate the student. They need to be able to put themselves in the students shoes and sees from different perspective in order to be someone who can motivate others. They also need to be able to understand their student well. A teacher needs to be able to prepare a lesson which is fun and the student can interact with. The lesson must never be the same as same lesson in term of teaching style and topics will make student bored. Thus, a teacher needs to be able to inject fun in lesson while portraying creativity as well as innovativity in their lesson. Apart from that, a teacher must be able to motivate student intrinsically and extrinsically through reinforcement in accordance to Skinners behaviourism theory. The writer believes that by giving positive reinforcement such as praises and rewards to student who does well in an activity will raise the students moral to learn, resulting in a healthy competitive and conducive classroom to learn.

Last but not least, the teacher must be able to control the classroom holistically. From the process of creating a lesson plan for the next lesson to the seating arrangements of the student, the teacher must really know their student in order to gain full control of the class. The teacher needs to set up a good atmosphere in learning and by having a colourful and neat classroom, student will learn better. That is why the classroom arrangement, the positioning of seats, the decoration design as well as the cleanliness of the class will affect the students conduciveness. Good classroom transition of learning occurs in a conducive condition such as this. The teacher must also plan all his activity well, from time management until the overall activity of the student. Good planning will give the teacher a choice in which kind of methodology need to be used in order to get the intended conduciveness within a classroom. For example, while the teacher practice Skinners behaviourism theory of reinforcement in order to control the students behaviour in a class, the teacher might also be enforcing Glassers theory which is setting up a set of rules and regulation that is agreeable to both teacher and student in the classroom. In order to control the class, rules are most definitely important. It determines the student behaviour; whether they will follow the classrooms duty roosters and whether they will behave good or bad in the class. By setting up rules and regulation in a

classroom, the teacher will be in position of power over the student. each and every researcher has their own opinion regarding the best way to be used as method of controlling the classroom in order for a teacher to create the most conducive environment available for the student.

In a nutshell, the writer believes that there is no one method of teaching that can be set as the best way to control the class. We can use several methodologies in order to gain control of the class. However, the writer believes that different methodology needs to be used in accordance to responding situation. Sometimes, a teacher must be able to merge two or more method of teaching in order to control the classroom and create a conducive environment. In order to be able to create a conducive environment in a classroom, the teacher must first be able to understand their own role. When they do understand their role, surely they will be able to create the best conducive environment for the student in accordance to their need.
