Student-Friendly Standards

I can name one group of explorers that came to North America.

I know that European explorers had their own languages and cultures
that were different from the Native Americans.

E. Procedure:
1. Teacher will review the information from the day before. Students will take out their
worksheets and share it with their group.
2. Students will work in groups to research 1 of the three countries discussed yesterday.
One group will research the British, French, and the third Spanish. Explain once more
than these are just 3 of many countries that had explorers searching for North America.
3. Students can work on the packet together, but each student will turn in his/her
individual packet. Instruct students that the last two questions of the packet needs to
be completed individually.
4. Once students complete their packet, each group will share their information with the
rest of the class.

5. CLOSURE: Teacher will review the three countries we learned about today and explain
that tomorrow; students will continue learning about the interactions between the
explorers and the Native Americans.
F. Assessment:
What will you use to measure student understanding?
The completed Explorer packet and oral presentation will measure student
understanding.
Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson.
I will use the last two questions of the packet where the student summarizes and
reflects on the lesson to measure student understanding since the rest of the packet
can be completed as a group. I will be able to tell the student understands the
material based on the description written.
