1. Scope of Work
The following procedure illustrate field transportation, Storage, Jointing installation and welding of Carbon steel pipes (Fire protection system)

2. References
1. Project specs. 2. NFPA 3.

3. Handling & Storage

Site transportation means shall be such that pipes are supported on their entire length, in
order to avoid bending and deformation. The vehicle bed shall be free from any projections which may cause damage.

Dragging during loading & unloading shall be completely prohibited. During storage, pipes shall not be placed directly on the ground and shall not be stored
one on top of another. They shall be placed on wide timber bearers with inter leaving of a protective material such as straw, rope, or felt and sacks of sand or sawdust.

All material shall be stored in clean suitable manner to protect them from deterioration
and contamination. End caps shall not be removed except prior to joining.

Only nylon or polypropylene wide straps shall be used for mechanical lifting and handling

4. Type of Jointing
For pipes up to 50mm threaded joints shall be used For pipes more than 50mm grooved coupling joints

4.1 Threaded Joints:

Tapered pipe threads for field-cut threads. Join pipe fittings and valves as follows:

Note the internal length of threads in fittings or valve ends, and proximity of internal seat
or wall, to determine how far pipe should be threaded into joint. Align threads at point of assembly.

Apply appropriate tape or thread compound to the external pipe threads. Assemble joint and wrench tight Wrench on valve shall be on the valve end into which the
pipe is being threaded. Page 2 of 3

Damaged threads: Do not use pipe with corroded or damaged threads.

4.2 Roll groove Joints

Prepare end of pipes to be roll grooved in compliance with the coupling joint design and
manufacture requirements.

Use proper machine tools for roll grooving of pipes. Thoroughly clean rust or scale. Use
proper lubricant recommended by the manufacturer on the pipe before installing the gaskets.

Assemble various component parts with bolts and nuts only manufactured by the same
coupling manufacturer.

5. Installation
Sand plasting and painting of black steel pipes Determine the location of the pipe route Provide hangers and supports in Compliance with the requirements of NFPA 13, NFPA
14 and Section 15145Erection of pipe and fittings.

Pipe installation and jointing Erection of all valves and accessories. Performing hydrotest for system Performing flushing for system Erection of sprinklers

6. Repair of piping
In case of accidental damage to the pipe work repairs shall be under taken by the
following method Damaged piece shall be cut and removed. Damaged piece shall be replaced by a new pipe piece. Any other repair method shall be carried out in accordance with Supplier instructions
