JOB TITLE Research and Evidence Officer SALARY RANGE XXX-XXX ROLE SUMMARY XXX works to ensure that government policy recognises and invests in the positive benefits that XXX and XXX bring to society. XXX wishes to recruit a Research and Evidence Officer who will play a key role in XXXs campaigning work by: Coordinating reviews and inquiries into current government policy affecting XXX; Developing sound quantitative evidence of the impact of specific policy proposals on XXX organisations; Generating compelling evidence of the positive impact of XXX and XXX on individuals and communities; Increasing XXXs knowledge and understanding of its member organisations assets, structures and capabilities;

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The research and evidence officer will work within XXXs policy team, and will report to the Head of Policy. S/he will: 1. 2. 3. 4. Undertake literature searches in relation to XXXs policy objectives; Prepare coherent research project briefs for internal execution or external commissioning; Undertake primary research and / or commission primary research and manage the relationship with external researchers; Provide effective support to external parties engaged in XXX inquiries (e.g. Inquiry Chairs, panel members). This would comprise preparing briefings, taking notes during evidence sessions; drafting reports and recommendations for consideration; Ensure that data and narrative produced are both credible and accessible i.e. that they are considered to be robust, but are also readily understood by the audiences XXX needs to convince; Maintain XXXs relationship with the University of XXX with regard to ongoing research into the social contribution of XXXs clubs; Represent XXX at external groups addressing research and volunteering issues; Manage the relationship with XXXs external political research supplier; Support the Head of Policy in managing campaign activity (e.g. generating member input into policy issues, ensuring that XXX website is up to date regarding campaign issues) Provide research support to other functions within the organisation (e.g. communications, services, commercial partnerships);

PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE It is likely but not essential that the Research and Evidence Officer will come from a social, political or market research background. S/he will need to demonstrate the ability to: find, access and analyse existing data sources relevant to XXX prepare coherent research project briefs develop questionnaires, surveys and lines of inquiry to capture quantitative and qualitative data on behalf of XXX analyse the resulting data and draft reports and recommendations emerging from it present research findings to colleagues within XXX so that they can use these within policy arguments communicate effectively with XXX member organisations, inquiry chairs and panel members, relevant suppliers and other external stakeholders work effectively both autonomously and within a team manage a number of concurrent tasks and ensure deadlines are met use Microsoft Office applications effectively, and particularly Excel spreadsheets

Desirable attributes It would be an advantage for the Research and Evidence Officer to demonstrate: previous experience of managing inquiries and / or reviews recent experience of research specific software such as web-based survey technology and SPSS an active interest or participation in XXX and XXX
