PURPOSE OF THE JOB 1. To assist the Resource Centre Manager create a stimulating, friendly, welcoming environment attracting older people to participate in activities appropriate to their needs; deputising for the Manager as required; undertaking outreach work; working in other resource centres and in conjunction with other XXX centres and community groups.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Requirements specific to this job: 1. To be responsible for the effective management of specified staff and volunteers engaged at the premises, and, in conjunction with the Resource Centre Manager, to ensure that all are properly supervised to agreed procedures. In the absence of the Resource Centre Manager, to deputise for her/him, and to take the lead in the dayto-day operation of the Centre, reporting to the Service Manager. To assist the Resource Centre Manager in the day-to-day management of the Centre by ensuring the safe, effective use of the premises, equipment and facilities provided. This includes monitoring all aspects of Health and Safety and reporting as required. To liaise with other agencies/organisations as appropriate and to represent XXX in meetings with other agencies as determined by line management. The post holder may be required to take a lead responsibility for some special area of work, which will be relevant to a particular centre and community.

To support the Resource Centre Manager in the following areas of work: 6. To ensure that the needs of older people using the services are identified and met and that the service provided at the Centre performs to the requirements of any service agreement with the Local Authority and to monitor and evaluate the service as required. To co-ordinate and participate in a range of activities and special events that are suitable to the needs of the older people attending the Centre, with particular reference to cultural and religious choice. To provide choice, promote innovation, develop resources and raise funds to enhance day care opportunities. To undertake outreach work with XXX providers, other local community groups and relevant organisations, in order to promote the centre and to develop joint working where appropriate.

To ensure that all personal care provided is safe and appropriate to the needs of individual users, according to individual cultural choices. In conjunction with the Resource Centre Manager to ensure that risk assessments are conducted in all relevant cases. To ensure that daily transport is arranged and properly co-ordinated and that the preferences of users are considered within the specification of any transport contract. To assist users in registering for alternative transport, as required. To ensure that lunch is arranged and properly co-ordinated and that users preferences are considered. To monitor lunch quality with input from service users. To facilitate contact with relatives and others who may be involved in providing care and support to users and to be responsible for maintaining ongoing contact with key agencies involved in providing services to older people. To take language and cultural needs into consideration. To maintain accurate and timely records on daily attendance, individual files, staffing matters, and any other business that requires to be recorded by virtue of existing policy and procedure. To undertake day to day administration of e-mail etc as required. To be responsible for the implementation of financial procedures, for the collection of charges when required (e.g. lunch/activity income) and for accurate and timely accounts in connection with any financial transactions carried out within the Resource Centre, including petty cash and fund raising. To ensure that stores, equipment, furniture and garden are properly maintained, and that goods and services are ordered to required procedures on a regular basis. To encourage and promote the active involvement and participation of older people who are users of the Centre by consulting them on their views about the service provided and by supporting the role of User Committees. To promote awareness, understanding and appreciation of cultural and ethnic differences among centre users. To ensure that all external enquiries are handled appropriately and advice given as necessary, with regard to cultural needs. To ensure that appropriate publicity material is developed and events are publicised, with due regard to language needs.

The post may involve occasional evening or weekend work, for which Time Off in Lieu can be claimed. Under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and associated guidance, it is the duty of all staff while at work to take adequate care for the health and safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their acts of omissions.
