1. o o Explain- I will explain the definition of job in the book. Discuss- I will discuss what jobs we have in our classroom and why.

2. As a class we will read pages 36-39. o o As we are reading I will stop to check for understanding. I will also stop to ask questions about the text.

3. After reading the text we will go over the meaning of the text and I will ask the students these questions: o o o o What do you learn to do in the classroom? Why do you need to treat others with respect? What jobs are the helpers doing in the pictures on page 37? Why do we say the Pledge of Allegiance?

4. Next we will do an activity where we recite the pledge in groups. The class will be divided into two groups: a red group and a blue group. o Everyone recites I Pledge Allegiance The red group says to the flag. The blue group says of the United States. Everyone yells of America. This continues on through the whole pledge. I will use drumsticks to keep a rhythm going. We will repeat this and switch which groups recite what.

5. CLOSURE: I will then close with explaining to students that everyone needs to help out in our classroom to make it run smoothly. Each job is important and a privilege. I will also close with how important the Pledge of Allegiance is to us as citizens and a Nation. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will measure students understanding by asking the students questions and evaluating the Reading Skill worksheet. I will also pay close attention to the students as they recite the Pledge. I will evaluate whether they have learned it or not as we go along.

Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will know whether students understood the concepts of the lesson by listening to their answers to questions about the concepts and also be their recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think the part of the lesson that will be the easiest to teach is the reading portion. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I think the most challenging part will be teaching the students to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I will extend this lesson by doing the extension activity on page 41. In this activity the students will trace their hands and write one helping job they can do. Then we will put the helping hands onto a tree in our classroom. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For the students who dont grasp the concepts I will try to spend more one on one time with them discussing the concepts. Also I would give them more practice time on learning to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. I might also send a note home with their homework asking his or her parents to work on it with them. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I do not think I will need to change any part of the lesson plan. I think it is fairly simple. Along the way if things dont go as planned I will be sure to modify them to make sure the students are getting as much as possible out of the lesson. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The most difficult part of writing this lesson was figuring out a fun and easy way to help the students learn the Pledge of Allegiance.
