Refer to notes on TE45, Draw attention to the last paragraph and ask the students to explain why they think a large number Southerners work for the U,S, Government. Think Aloud- I know that people tend to live where they work. Virginia is very close to Washington D.C. the capital of the United States. It is the place where the countrys central government is located. I also know that many of the space programs located in Texas and Florida. Thats why so many Southerners work for the U.S. Government. Introduce vocabulary, (dam, scarcity, opportunity cost, producer, consumer) Ask questions listed in the margins of the TE as an ongoing check for understanding. (TE143)) What are some ways that people use natural resources of the south to earn a living? (TE143) What three kinds of resources work together at TVA to produce electricity?
