Cavern Creation Celebration

As you know, our class visited the amazing and awe inspiring Kartchner Caverns recently. Upon returning from the trip, 2nd and 3rd graders have been busy demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of the science behind this amazing formation. We are inviting you and your family to join us in celebrating our cavern creations in our classroom museum next Monday, January 28th directly following the 2nd Quarter Awards Assembly. (The assembly will begin at 10 am in the gym.) We look forward to sharing our caverns and teaching about how they are made.

Did you know?

Did you know that reading just 20 minutes a day can make a huge difference in students academic achievement! By reading children are developing and enhancing their vocabulary which is a huge part of reading, understanding and learning. A student who reads 20 minutes a night reads almost 2 million words as compared to a student who reads only 2 hundred thousand words by reading 5 minutes a night. Time spent reading is a huge indicator of test scores as well. These are just a few of the reasons I ask students to read 20 minutes each night. You can help by monitoring your students reading each night and making nightly reading a part of your family routine.

Math is Everywhere!
Students attended an oral hygiene assembly this week during which they learned that if you cant time your tooth brushing for 2 minutes (the recommended length of time for healthy teeth and gums) then you can count to 80 as you brush the top and 80 as you brush the bottom. What number would you count to of you counted by 5s? 10s? 100s?

Is homework really important?

This is a question students (and families) sometimes ask. The answer is a resounding YES! Not only does homework reinforce and provide practice for the learning that is happening at school, but it also tells me what I need to teach again. Establishing a homework routine (a set time (like right after dinner), a special homework place (the kitchen table or a desk), a support system for asking for help (a family member, such as a sister or cousin, or bringing in the homework and asking Ms. Sleeper for help) can help make homework time run smoothly. Consistency is an important part of young childrens lives. Knowing when, where and how they will spend their time provides a sense of comfort and understanding in their world. Also, you have my phone number. Never hesitate to call with questions!

Caverna Celebracin Creacin

Como ustedes saben, nuestra clase visito las Cuevas de inspiracin y admiracin increble Kartchner recientemente. Al regresar del viaje, los estudiantes de segundo y tercero han estado ocupados demostrar su conocimiento y comprensin de la ciencia detrs de esta formacin increble. Invitamos a usted ya su familia a unirse a nosotros en la celebracin de nuestras creaciones caverna en nuestro museo aula prximo Lunes, 28 de enero inmediatamente despus del 2 Trimestre Asamblea de Premios. (La asamblea comenzar a las 10 horas en el gimnasio.) Nosotros esperamos compartir nuestras cavernas y la enseanza acerca de la forma en que se hacen.

Sabas que ...?

Saba usted que la lectura de tan slo 20 minutos al da puede hacer una gran diferencia en el rendimiento acadmico de los estudiantes! En los nios la lectura estn desarrollando y mejorando su vocabulario, que es una parte muy importante de la lectura, la comprensin y el aprendizaje. Un estudiante que lee 20 minutos cada noche lee casi 2 millones de palabras, en comparacin a un estudiante que lea slo 2 por cien mil palabras lectura 5 minutos cada noche. El tiempo dedicado a la lectura es un indicador amplio de resultados de las pruebas tambin. Estas son slo algunas de las razones por las que piden a los estudiantes a leer 20 minutos cada noche. Usted puede ayudar mediante el control de su estudiante est leyendo cada noche y todas las noches haciendo la lectura sea parte de su rutina familiar.

Matemticas en todos
Los estudiantes asistieron a una asamblea de higiene oral esta semana durante la cual aprendieron que el mejor tiempo para cepillar los dientes tiene que durante 2 minutos (es es la duracin recomendada para la salud de los dientes y las encas), entonces usted puede contar hasta 80 como se cepilla la parte superior y 80 como se cepilla la parte inferior.De esa manera tambien podemos usar los numeros 5 a? 10 de? 100 en diferentes actividades Matemticas en todos lados!

Es la tarea realmente importante ...?

Esta es una pregunta a los estudiantes (y sus familias) a veces preguntar. La respuesta es un SI rotundo! No slo tarea reforzar y proporcionar la prctica para el aprendizaje que est pasando en la escuela, pero tambin me dice lo que tengo que ensear de nuevo. Establecer una rutina de tareas (una hora determinada (como despus de la cena), un lugar especial de estudio (la mesa de la cocina o un escritorio), un sistema de apoyo para pedir ayuda (un miembro de la familia, como una hermana o primo, o traer la tarea y pedir ayuda a Sra.Sleeper) puede ayudar a que hora de la tarea sea sin problemas. consistencia es una parte importante de las vidas de los nios pequeos. Saber cundo, dnde y cmo van a gastar su tiempo proporciona una sensacin de consuelo y comprensin en su mundo. Adems, usted tiene mi nmero de telfono. Nunca duder en llamar con preguntas!
