Historical Report on Race

I am writing to you because you asked certain questions about African Americans is U.S. History. African Americans have a long history in America which I will be glad to discuss here to better inform you a major part of their life was slavery in the beginning of their time in the United States African. Americans had problems with civil rights in the early creation and even in current times. This has cause major cultural, political and social concerns throughout American history. Legislation and different important people have taken action to change the way African Americans are treated in society. African Americans have been through many things during the history of the United States. Since early in American History, African Americans have been considered colored. Slavery and slave labor was formed and in 1619 when a Dutch ship brought 20 legally contracted servants or slaves to the English colony of Jamestown, Virginia (African American World, 2012). The problem with slavery is that children are bought as slaves ans some of the slave owners would rape, beat, or even kill female and male slaves alike. Raping of an African slave was not only legal, but it also was a normal thing to do for owners of slaves (Scholastic, 2012). The harsh treatment of slaves was not matter how people explained the treatment off. It is inhumane and takes the rights of people away, and this is not the way to treat anyone or anything that is one of God's creatures. African Americans did not arrive in America through the traditional ways of immigration, but instead were forced to leave their homeland by African slave traders. African Slave traders sold

African Americans to American Southerners to work as slaves on their plantations. After hundreds of years of being owned by white Americans, the African Americans were finally given their freedom. Unfortunately, after being released from human slavery and bondage, African Americans had to endure many years of poor treatment and discrimination by members of the American public. After the legislation that was enacted forbidding and punishing discriminatory behavior in society, African Americans were finally able to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Although human equality is still a tremendous work in progress in our society today, after years of decrementing struggles and tribulations, the African American is finally treated like an equal citizen in society. The adverse reality that African Americans did not have the equal right and opportunity to live their lives as free men and women, has set a staggering mark in American history. African Americans were bought and sold like cattle and never looked at as a citizen. Although slavery was made illegal in the Northern regions in 1787, it was not until 1808 before slavery was outlawed and freedom was granted to African Americans throughout the United States. Even though African American freedom was finally established, the African American still forced maltreatment and injustice in society. Because of the twisted roots and views the White Americans had toward African Americans, they still continued to suffer the act of denial of equal opportunities in society, and found very little professional and social success. The Black race is motivated by there own interest and belief and most of the Black people enjoy a good challenge. I think the Black race is creative, intelligent and is motivated by external rewards, such as money, or good grades. I also think that the Black race can recognize when a problem exists and can generate a solution to problems. The Black race differs in personality, thinking and feeling. Some are outgoing and expressive and enjoy having fun. The Black American has fewer educational opportunities. Many of them are raised in poverty as apposed to the white children

who grow up in middle to upper class society. I believe that environmental factor, such as nutrition and lack of prenatal care can have a negative impact on the ability to succeed. I think that the shade of skin color, blood type and proteins make each individual different from each other. Many White Americans do not feel, see, or think that a wrong has been done to the Black race. They do not understand that compensation, justice and change are necessary. I think that White Americans feel that by denying the Blacks of land and property ownership and education that they have stripped Blacks of a base on which to build a reliable means of obtaining their basic needs. Blacks recognize their differences experiences and show little patience with those who cannot see the situation as it is. I do agree that race does still matter in the United States. I agree that some White Americans may dismiss discussions of race by claiming that everyone is basically the treated the same. I believe that each person is and individual with a unique family history and personal interest and these factors alone should determine our differences.
