Producers and Consumers Social Studies Lesson Plan Day 6 Summary of the Lesson Plan: This is a third grade lesson designed to give students a better understanding of producers and consumers and supply and demand. This lesson uses the Houghton and Mifflin Communities textbook pages 284 289. Student Population: 3rd Grade Students at all learning levels Whole group reading and individual assessment Materials: Houghton Mifflin Social Studies textbook Communities. Paper Pencils/pens Objectives: E11.3.1 - Identify and explain what business owners do. I can explain what business owners do. Procedure: 1. Preview the four vocabulary words on page 284 and 285. Ask students if theyve ever heard of these words before and if so, where? 2. As a class, read pages 286-289. After each paragraph, SW do a pause and reflect with their shoulder partner. Go over the Talk About It questions 1-6 on pages 287 and 288. SW answer these questions with their face partner, then TW call on volunteers to share aloud. 3. Upon completion of the reading, SW be doing the Write a Dialogue activity on the bottom of page 288. 4. SW present their dialogue. When presenting, students will need a partner so they can role play both the seller and customer. SW turn in paper. 5. Closure: SW complete the following sentence in their journal: Today I learned about Assessment: TW collect and grade the dialogue students have written. TW be looking for proper conventions. Reflection:
Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think reading the assigned pages will be the easiest part to do. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I think the most challenging part will be having the students come up with a creative dialogue for their paper. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I will follow up this lesson by doing more role play activities between consumers and producers.

What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For students who dont grasp the concepts I can pull them aside for additional help. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? Im not sure if my activity correlates with the reading as much as I would like it to. What Im doing might be too simple for the students. It may need more substance. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The most difficult part was trying to create activities that were fun for them and also beneficial for them as well.
