Act it Out Social Studies Lesson Plan Day 7 Summary of the Lesson Plan: This is a third grade social studies lesson designed to give students a deeper understanding of producers and consumers and supply and demand. This lesson uses the Houghton Mifflin Social Studies textbook Communities pages 290-291. Target Population: 3rd grade Students at all learning levels. Whole group reading and individual assessment. Materials: Houghton Mifflin Social Studies textbook Communities. Paper Pencils/pens Standard: E9.3.3 - Give examples of prices set by businesses for selling goods and services. I can give examples of what businesses set their prices at. E9.3.2 - Give examples of prices consumers have paid when buying goods and services. I can give examples of what consumers pay for goods and services.

Procedure: 1. This lesson builds off what we learned from day 6. 2. As a class, we will read pages 290 and 291 The Price of Juice from text book. After reading page 290, do the Extra Support Talk About Supply and Demand exercise. Ask students both bullet point questions. SW discuss their answers with their shoulder partners. After, TW call on volunteers to discuss answers. 3. Upon completion of the reading, SW do questions 1 and 2 from the Activities po rtion. For question 2, students must write about a product they would like to sell. What is it? Who would be the producer, who would be the consumer? At what price would you sell this product? Why? Would you make a lot of this product, a small amount, or somewhere in between? SW turn in assignment when they are finished. If they dont finish, they may put paper in their Unfinished Work Box and complete it tomorrow. 4. Closure: Ticket out the door. List 3 things you have learned these past seven days. Are there any questions you have about the material weve covered?

Act it Out Social Studies Lesson Plan Day 7 Assessment: (Give examples of prices set by businesses for selling goods and services. Give examples of prices consumers have paid when buying goods and services) TW do informal observations during the Extra Support activity. TW collect and grade the writing assignment that students are doing. Reflection: Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? The easiest part will be reading the story from the text book. It should be simple. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I think the most difficult part will be acting out three scenes of supply and demand. This might be challenging for the students and I may need to direct a lot of it. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? One way you could extend this lesson is by having students try to sell juice on their free time. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? I would work with them individually. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I may need to remove the role playing activity. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? This is a fairly simple lesson, so there really wasnt any difficulty.
