"Report: 11 Percent of School-aged Kids Diagnosed with ADHD." CBS News. N.p., 1 Apr. 2013. Web. 6 May 2013. <http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-204_162-57577267/report-11-percent-of-schoolaged-kids-diagnosed-with-adhd/>. This news article focuses on how many kids are actually being diagnosed with ADHD. About 11%, ages 4 through 17, of school-aged kids are being diagnosed. This number has gone up 53% in the past 10 years. Out of all of these kids, about two-thirds of them are being treated with medication. I chose this article because it did a goo job at proving that kids really do have ADHD and gives good statistics to back up the facts. Child's Perspective on ADHD. Perf. Mia. N.p., n.d. Web. 6 May 2013. <http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1313437079001?bckey=AQ~~,AA AAAGw7CYU~,-CLdHSY_jQt7ehZP7xglwpET1QUpRFW&bctid=111732588001>. In this video it was somewhat of a documentary and informative video, but is really an advertisement for an ADHD medication. The little girl explained the daily life and struggle of ADHD, and then there was a doctor that backed up what she was saying and told you about it. I agree with this little girl and actually felt what she was saying. It made me think back to when I was her age and how it was when I was first getting diagnosed. Towards the end she tells about how her medication (Concerta) helped her overcome the symptoms and gave her the ability to do the everyday things that were a struggle. I chose this video because I was able to relate to this video and it explained everything very well. Kanakos, Maria, Psy, D. "How Does Childhood ADHD Affect Family?" Family First Psychological Services. N.p., Mar. 2011. Web. 6 May 2013. <http://www.therapytestingva.com/2011/03/the-impact-that-childhood-adhd-has-onthe-family/>. This was a website that I found that helps out families of those diagnosed and struggling with ADHD. They state that parents with kids with ADHD tend to have their own problems and go through stress. They found that parents whose kids have ADHD have more stress than families who do not. As well as parents with more problematic children are found to be more stressed than better-behaved children. One thing that really caught my attention was how they talked about how parents with children with ADHD are more negative, have low-self esteem, and feel that their kids have negatively affects parts of their life. I found that to be sad and couldnt understand why. I think that those parents need to look deeper into the

good things that come out of ADHD like creativity, passion for certain things, and most importantly their personalities. Quinn, Patricia, MD. "Types of ADHD: Inattentive, Hyperactive, and Combined Types." WebMD. WebMD, 15 May 2012. Web. 06 May 2013. <http://www.webmd.com/add-adhd/childhood-adhd/types-of-adhd>. This source was just a basic summary of exactly what ADHD was. It was part of Web MD with an article within in, and it gave the basic different types of ADHD. Here I learned more about the difference between the inattentive type that affects you paying attention in class or even losing things that you need. There are also other types like the hyperactivity and impulsivity as well. With those kinds it may cause you to squirm and fidget or even interrupt conversations. I believe that it was a good start to my research and finding out more about the disorder. Recognizing ADD and ADHD in Children. YouTube. N.p., 18 July 2008. Web. 6 May 2013. <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2B9JmsnFAc>. This YouTube video was very informative with the first steps in determining ADHD. It was useful to summarize everything and anything that kids with ADHD do that confirms that they have ADHD. It was also factual especially when they say that symptoms arent even seen until around preschool or elementary school. There is also a doctor in the video that confirms how ADHD affects the brain and what exactly happens. Rodriguez, Diana, and Pat F. Bass III, MD. "Treating ADHD." (n.d.): n. pag. Everyday Health. 28 Jan. 2010. Web. 6 May 2013. <http://www.everydayhealth.com/adhd/adhd-treatment.aspx>. This was an article that I found along with my video on Mia and her story. Within this article, the writer Diana Rodriguez explained how ADHD does not only affect children academically but socially as well. She tells how it can progress through school, college, and even effect them throughout their careers as well. This is why it is very important to be treated and not just blown off, which happens frequently. Many parents down want to believe their child has ADHD and sucks it up to them being lazy and out of control. I love how she stresses the importance of treating your child as well as lists the many different things you can do, even if you dont want to medicate. Being a medicated patient, I was unaware with the other ways of treatment. I learned ways to seek other assistance in treatment with the article. Rothman, Jean. "Unruly Behavior vs. Symptoms of ADHD: How Can You Tell?" Ed. Niya Jones, MD. (n.d.): n. pag. 10 Mar. 2009. Web. 6 May 2013. <http://www.everydayhealth.com/adhd/distinguishing-bad-behavior-fromsymptoms.aspx>.

This article was based on telling the difference between true ADHD or immaturity. I loved reading this article because I dont like when people use this disorder as an excuse for a misbehaved kid or having a lack of concentration. Throughout this article Jean Rothman and Dr. Niya Jones covers the differences between the different types of ADHD and signs of it. I found this to be a great article as a start to diagnosing their kids.
