We at the Dow Bay Area Family Y challenge our members, volunteers, and staff to embrace the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in their daily living. The Y is a community destination point where everyone can become a member; regardless of their sex, religion, ethnicity, race, or physical abilities. Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT): An easy way to pay as you go! Your checking, savings, or credit card account is debited once a month. Annual Payment: Dues may be paid in full upon joining and yearly thereafter. Payment is accepted via cash, check, or credit card. *Our one-time joining fee is used for our endowment fund, to ensure, protect, and maintain this building for the future of this Y. For our continuous members, it is our pledge to only charge this joining fee once during initial sign-up. This joining fee has the ability to be split over the first three months for those who pay through EFT.

AQUATICS
PRESCHOOL SWIMMING
PARENT & CHILD - LEVEL 1 Introduce young children to the water and prepare them to learn to swim in the American Red Cross Preschool Aquatics or Learn to Swim courses. Learning objectives include: asking for permission before entering the water, entering and exiting the water in a safe manner, exploring submerging to the mouth, nose and eyes, basic water safety rules, and avoiding water hazards around the home. Ages 6 months to 3 years. Sat 11:00 - 11:30am Y-Member $25 / Prospective Member $40 PARENT & CHILD - LEVEL 2 Introduce young children to the water and prepare them to learn to swim in the American Red Cross Preschool Aquatics or Learn to Swim courses. Learning objectives include: explore submerging in a rhythmic pattern completion, performing combined strokes on front and back with assistance, and teaching parents how to recognize an emergency, call for help and perform simple non-swimming assists. Ages 6 months to 3 years. Students will also practice and advance in the skills they learned in Level 1. Continuing education of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and diving from the sidewall. Students will also learn the use of swimming aids and the etiquette of fitness swimming. Discussions will include principles of setting up a fitness program, calculating heart rate, and refining training techniques. Prerequisites: Successful completion of the American Red Cross Learn-to- Swim Level 5 Fundamental Aquatic skills certificate or completion of all requirements in Level 5. LEARN TO SWIM

COMPETITIVE SWIM LESSONS Learn the skills needed to be a competitive swimmer. This program is meant to provide help with stroke refinement, endurance building, competitive techniques, and advanced safety skills. Pre-requirements: ability to complete Level 5 or 6 of the Learn to Swim Program and/or ability to swim front crawl 50 yards, back crawl 50 yards, breaststroke 25 yards, and butterfly 15 yards. Goggles and swim cap required. Wed 5:00 6:00pm Y-Member $25 / Prospective Member $40 PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS Learn how to swim at the YMCA with individualized instruction. SPECIAL NEEDS The perfect program for both children and adults with disabilities. Each week students spend 30 minutes in the pool for exercise, games, and friendship. These sessions are oriented towards developing relationships, improving body coordination and skills, and most importantly having fun in the water! WATER SAFETY
BOY SCOUT SWIMMING MERIT BADGE Scouts who earn this badge will learn about safety when swimming and diving, how swimming can contribute to overall fitness and health, and gain some basic competitive swimming skills. Merit badge class taught by Eagle Scout. Mon 5:00-6:00pm Y-Member $25 / Prospective Member $40 BOY SCOUT LIFESAVING MERIT BADGE This program will prepare Scouts to assist those involved in water accidents, teaching them the basic knowledge of rescue techniques, the skills to perform them, and the judgment to know when and how to act so that they can be prepared for emergencies. The girls will practice the Buddy System while participating in various exercises. This class is for mommies-to-be at any stage of pregnancy and all fitness levels. One day will be on land and the second day will be in the pool. The class will be instructed by an AFAA certified Perinatal Fitness Instructor. This is a great way to connect and socialize with other moms-to-be, plus receive the great benefits of physical activity during pregnancy. In addition to engaging in group exercise, all women who enroll will have the option to participate in an exciting research study that is being conducted by Dr. Becca Schlaff at Saginaw Valley State University. Dr. Schlaffs area of expertise involves the effect of exercise during pregnancy on physical and mental health. As a participant in this study, you will have the opportunity to find out how much energy you expend during pregnancy and how your exercise routine impacts your health and well-being. Tai Chi Chuan or Taijiquan traditionally has been passed down through families. Each family would develop a form which is comprised of a sequence of movements. The Secret Yang Long Form is a form taught in the inner circle of the Yang Family. This class will be taught in a more traditional manner with an emphasis on the foundational principles and basic movements. As the students progress they will be taught more challenging movements as well as being exposed to the martial art applications. MUAY THAI Muay Thai, also known as Thai Boxing, is a fighting art that originated in Thailand 2,000 years ago. It is the national sport of Thailand, and is arguably the most sought-after kickboxing style in the world. It is known for its powerful techniques of punching, elbows, knees, kicks, ring evasion and angles. Not to be confused with mainstream cardio kickboxing classes, Muay Thai represents authentic fight training for practitioners of all levels. The Muay Thai practitioner must have superior speed and conditioning through hard training. Classes will involve the use of shadowboxing, footwork skills, pad-work, and various partner coordination drills and conditioning exercises. Suggested beginning equipment: 14-16oz boxing gloves and hand wraps. Ages 12+ years old.
