ABSTRACT

This study focuses on the Reading Preferences on Library Printed Materials of Notre Dame of Marbel University First Year Bachelor of Arts Major in Psychology: Basis for Library Collection Improvement. Specially, this study aims to answer the following questions. First, what are the reading preferences of Notre Dame of Marbel University First Year AB-Psychology students with regards to the type of library printed materials? Second, how often does the Notre Dame of Marbel University First Year AB-Psychology students read those available library printed materials? A survey method is used in the study. A two (2) page short size pen-ended questionnaire for the reading preferences of the Notre Dame of Marbel University first year AB-Psychology students is prepared and distributed in the respondent, using the stratified sampling method. After the analysis of the various procedures and examination of the finding, it was then conclude that the Reading Preferences on Types of Library Printed Materials of First ABPsychology students among the given choices they usually use Magazines, followed by the Dictionaries and Encyclopedias. In terms of how often do the First Year AB-Psychology students of Notre Dame of Marbel University read the Library Printed Materials, the first is the Magazine followed by the Newspaper and Dictionaries. It is the recommended that regular giving of a research work, assignments and quizzes by the teachers to the students should be imposed, secondly, a re-orientation to the lower level should be made for further information about those Library Printed Materials, third, marketing of the Library Printed Materials among students should be made, fourth, further replication of this study to other courses and colleges should be made.
