The interaction of heavy drinkers related problems & dependence of Alcohol. Definition:- Substance Misuse Problem (SMP):- Te employee with Substance Misuse Problem is defined as those workers whose regular or intermittent use of substance repeatedly interferes with their work or the work of others, their job performance or their ability to work, their relationship with colleagues or clients, of their health. Dependency:- Dependence is a state in which an individual experiences difficulty in controlling the intake of the substance & experiences withdrawal symptoms on reduction or cessation of intake. Blood Alcohol Interpretation 25-50 Mg/Dl Risk taking increases & decision making skills begin to decline 60 Mg/Dl (4 Units) Double the risk of accident compared to those who has no blood alcohol 100Mg/Dl (7 Units) 6 times more risk of accidents 150Mg/Dl (10 Units) 25 times more risk of accidents Social Drinkers:- Consumption of alcohol below 50 units per week. Above 50 units/wk impairs Cerebral functions. Health Hazards:- 1) Dementia is the early sign including:a) Impaired problem solving b) Rigidity of thoughts c) Impaired Recent Memory d) Difficulty in carrying out fine tasks 2) Impairment of central functions 3) Epilepsy:- Drinkers who develop dependency of alcohol may develop seizures known as Rum Fits 4) Absentism 5) Mortality due to accidents, Hepatic Cirrhosis Diagnosis:1) Serum Gamma Glutamil Transferase (GGT):- It remains above 45 IU/Lit in blood, in liver cirrhosis & Chronic Alcoholism 2) Serum Aspartate Amino Transferase :- Increases in cirrhosis & Chronic Alcoholism If both of the above are raised together then it a strong indication that the person is taking heavy alcohol.
