STEP|R
RE-DESIGN
Todays power plants face changing market and environmental requirements conditions. Operators try to extend the service life cycle of the plants with a simultaneous reduction of maintenance costs. In these cases a Re-Design allows to bring specific systems or components to the technical state-of-the-art to cope with future economic and environmental requirements.

Methodology
STEP|R has been developed to offers a systematic investigation based on the customers demands to optimize a system or a specific component. A system re-design could have multiple reasons:

Process
Our approach to a Re-Design is based on a 2-part investigation. In Phase 1 the respective system or component is evaluated with respect to:

Our Experience
STEP|R offers access to the substantial know-how and experience of ALSTOM:

Design boundary conditions Technical Status

Worldwide network of experience in assessing power plants covering all technologies Experience in operation and maintenance of plants worldwide covering all technologies Access to historical as well as up-to-date plant equipment costs and benchmark data Experienced engineering staff with proven track record of developing solutions for existing equipment.

Changes in the operation mode of the plant Tightened environmental requirements Increased maintenance and operation costs due to out-ofdate equipment Major incident resulting in damaged equipment

Furthermore, new concepts are generated, considering the current and future boundary conditions as well as the technical state-of-theart for the investigated system or component. Phase 1 concludes with a concept design and cost estimation for the optimum solution. Phase 2 takes the concept design from Phase 1 and expands on it to generate basic engineering documentation:

Scope Extension
ALSTOM can offer the subsequent steps to implement the solution:

Basic P & I Diagrams System description of the required functions

Customer Benefits
System/component specific modernisation Implementation of state-of-the-art equipment Reduction of operation and maintenance costs

Detailed engineering Procurement Implementation Commissioning.

Investigations regarding the planned modifications are supported by more refined calculations and the creation of an implementation schedule.

This scope extension gives the customer the chance to reduce interfaces and optimise the complete Re-Design process.
