Dobrodo{li u Sarajevo - Proslavite sa nama Dan grada Sarajeva! Esteemed citizens and visitors to Sarajevo, Every April our city celebrates its greatest holiday the Day of the city of Sarajevo. It was 68 years ago, on April 6, 1945, that Sarajevo was liberated from fascist occupation during WWII. The Siege of Sarajevo also began on the same day in 1992, so April is a time to remember the resistance that was shown by the citizens of Sarajevo during the Siege, which lasted from April 1992 until the end of 1995. Many events are planned to mark April 6, the most signimcant day in the history of Sarajevo, including an exhibit which will open on April 5 and which is traditionally held at Collegium Artisticum Gallery. The exhibit will run until April 22 and works by members of the BiH Association of Artists, the Association of Applied Artists and Designers and the Association of Architects will all be on display. We also recommend that you visit the 25th International Book Fair at KSC Skenderija, April 17-23, which is sure to once again delight all literature lovers. Celebrate the Day of the city of Sarajevo, take in some important cultural events and enjoy the beginning of spring in Sarajevo! Prolo je 68 godina od 6. aprila 1945. godine, kada je Sarajevo osloboeno od faistike okupacije u Drugom svjetskom ratu. A, istog datuma je 1992. godine zapoela i opsada Sarajeva, pa se u aprilu sjeamo i otpora kojeg su graani Sarajeva pruili tokom opsade koja je trajala od aprila 1992, pa sve do kraja 1995. godine. Brojni dogaaji e obiljeiti 6. april, najznaajniji dan u historiji Sarajeva, meu njima i tradicionalna izloba u galeriji Collegium Artisticum, koja e biti otvorena 5. aprila. Na izlobi, koja e trajati do 22. aprila, bit e izloena djela lanova Udruenja likovnih umjetnika BiH, Udruenja likovnih umjetnika primijenjenih umjetnosti i dizajnera BiH i Asocijacije arhitekata u BiH. Vaoj panji, takoer, preporuujemo i 25. meunarodni sajam knjiga, koji e biti odran od 17. do 23. aprila u KSC Skenderija, te e sigurno jo jednom obradovati sve ljubitelje knjievnosti. apital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo is the largest city and countrys administrative, economic, cultural, university and sport center. The City of Sarajevo is comprised of four Municipalities: Stari Grad, Centar, Novo Sarajevo and Novi Grad. Situated in the area called Sarajevo Field, the town is surrounded by Olympic mountains Jahorina, Bjelanica, Igman, Treskavica and Trebevi. River Miljacka nows through the city. Bosniaks, Croats, Serbs, Jews, Roma and other ethnic groups live in Sarajevo. The religions represented are Catholicism, Christian Orthodoxy, Islam and Judaism.

Prostor na kojem se nalazi Sarajevo naseljen je jo od prahistorijskog vremena. Gradsko sredite Sarajevo postaje dolaskom Osmanlija u 15. stoljeu, a glavni grad nezavisne BiH 1992. godine. The area that Sarajevo occupies has been continuously inhabited since the Prehistoric period. It becomes a city with the arrivals of the Ottomans in 15th century, and a capital of independent BiH in 1992. Sarajevo has always connected East and the West thus creating a unique blend of history, culture and heritage.

Population 300,000 (2006 est.) Climate Sarajevo has a mild continental climate. Average summer temperature is 19.1 C (66 F), and winter is -1.3 C (30 F). Average yearly temperature is 9.5 C (49 F). Time Zone Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo are located in Central European Time Zone (GMT +1). Electricity The electric supply is 220V with 50Hz frequency. Water Supply It is safe to drink tap water in Sarajevo. Currency Currency in BiH is Convertible Mark. The international abbreviation for currency is BAM, while KM is used locally. (1,95 KM = 1 Euro) You can exchange your currency in any bank or post ofmce. Banks are generally open from 08:00 to 18:00 on working days, and from 09:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays. Sarajevo War Tunnel

Sarajevski ratni tunel
Story by / Pi{e: Sead KREEVLJAKOVI he Siege of Sarajevo (1992-1995) lasted 1,425 days, and psada Sarajeva u periodu od 1992. do 1995. godine T is considered the longest-running siege in the history of Otrajala je 1.425 dana, te se smatra najduom opsadom modern warfare. Before the tunnel was built, civilians and soldiers alike had to run across the landing strip, which was under the control of UN troops. There was sniper mre and random shootings coming from the Army of RS and UN spotlights illuminated the airstrip at night. These factors led to more than 800 people being killed or injured on the runway. There is a legend which tells of how one BiH Army Ofmcer had no choice but to seek shelter inside a pipe along the runway in order to save himself from the shooting. Apparently, this gave rise to the mrst idea of digging a tunnel below the airport. While waiting to see whether it was his destiny to make it across one night, General Raid Zorlak of the ARBiH decided that when he got back to Sarajevo he would mnd the layout for the drainage pipe which ran beneath Sarajevos airport. This small opening, which was used in collecting groundwater, would serve as a safe passage. In the end the idea came to nothing because it was impossible for someone to crawl through the narrow pipe for 800 meters to reach Butmir. However, the idea of a passage running beneath the runway sredine 1993. godine, bio je tunel ispod aerodromske piste. Prije nego to je tunel izgraen graani i vojska pretravali su pistu, koja je bila pod kontrolom vojnika Ujedinjenih nacija. Zbog snajperske vatre i nasumine pucnjave sa poloaja Vojske RS i renektora UN-a, koji su nou osvjetljavali teren, na pisti je poginulo i ranjeno vie od 800 ljudi. Legenda kae kako je jedan od omcira Armije BiH tokom pucnjave bio prisiljen da se uvue u neku cijev na pisti kako bi spasio ivot. Tada se, navodno, prvi put rodila ideja o prokopavanju tunela ispod Aerodroma. General ARBiH Raid Zorlak, ekajui da vidi da li mu je sudbina namijenila da te noi iv pretri pistu, odluio je da po povratku u Sarajevo pronae nacrte drenanih cijevi ispod sarajevskog aerodroma i da kroz taj mali otvor, koji se koristio za prikupljanje podzemnih voda, napravi siguran prolaz. Zamisao je propala, jer je bilo nemogue da neko 800 metara, koliko je dijelilo Sarajevo od Butmira na drugoj strani piste, pree puui kroz usku cijev. Ali, ideja o prolazu ispod piste ve se proirila i meu drugim oficirima, ali i graanima, pa je

had spread among other ofmcers and civilians, and with time it became the only option left for breaking the citys blockade. The BiH Army Command recruited engineers, the civil defense and miners and mnally, at around 9:00 p.m. on July 30, 1993, a small but secure passage was dug. It was a path that led to freedom and served as a horrible symbol of how, on the eve of the 21st century, Sarajevo was connected to Europe by a passage no wider than 1.5 meters. While the tunnel was being dug 2,800 m of earth were removed and 170 m of wooden beams and 45 tons of iron were utilized in its construction. For two and a half years this 800-meter-long passage under the airport, which was about mve meters below the runway, served as Sarajevos lifeline, providing access to food, oil, electricity, telephone cables, weapons and ammunition. The following items made it through the D-B (Dobrinja-Butmir) Tunnel: more than 4,516,459 kg of military gear; 4,500,000 liters of various types of fuel, about 19,082,311 kg of food and 8,852,068 kg of other goods. Thanks to a donation by the German government, a 12-MW cable was installed in the tunnel, allowing about 80,000,000 kW hours of electricity into the city.

Inside the tunnel, water levels were often above the knee and sometimes 2.5 hours were needed to reach the other side. It isnt known exactly how many people passed through the tunnel, but during the Siege about 1,120,812 passages were recorded. The author of this text made four passages to freedom and back again. In those years, Sarajevans were lucky if they could obtain permission to pass through this claustrophobic hole which came to symbolize salvation. At the entrance to the tunnel on the Butmir side one of them wrote with a blue marker: Paris 3,765 km. The tunnels long story is preserved at the D-B Tunnel (Tunnel of Hope) War Museum in Butmir. There are many items on display and a 20-meter-long portion of the tunnel serves as a reminder of Sarajevos hell.
About author Sead Kre{evljakovi} was born in 1973 in Sarajevo. He comes from one of Sarajevo's most prominent families. His grandfather, Hamdija Kre{evljakovi}, was one of BH's most signimcant historians, and father Muhamed, also a historian, became the Sarajevo's mrst democratically elected mayor in 1991. Sead Kre{evljakovi} is an Honorary Consul of Most Serene Republic of San Marino in BiH, and with his twin brother Nihad, he is a founder of NGO Videoarchive - Library Hamdija Kre{evljakovi}, which aims toward the afmrmation of cultural heritage of Sarajevo and BiH.

Generaltab Armije BiH angairao je ininjere, civilnu zatitu i rudare, te je konano, 30. jula 1993. godine oko 21 sat, prokopan malen, ali siguran prolaz. Bio je to put u pravcu slobode, ali i simbol uasa koji je na pragu 21. stoljea vezu Sarajeva sa Evropom sveo na rupu irine neto vie od jednog i visine od jednog i po metra. Tokom gradnje tunela iskopano je 2.800 m zemlje, a u njegovu konstrukciju ugraeno je 170 m drvene grae i 45 tona eljeza. Tih 800 metara ispod Aerodroma, koji su bili prokopani oko pet metara ispod piste, su dvije i pol godine bili pupana vrpca Sarajeva, koja je grad snabdijevala hranom, naftom, strujom, telefonskim kablovima, orujem i municijom. Kroz tzv. Objekat D-B (Dobrinja - Butmir) u grad je ulo vie od 4.516.459 kg vojne opreme, 4.500.000 litara raznih pogonskih goriva, uneseno je oko 19.082.311 kg hrane i 8.852.068 kg drugih roba. U tunelu je, zahvaljujui donaciji njemake vlade, instaliran i kabl od 12 MW, pomou kojeg je u grad dolazilo oko 80.000.000 kW sati elektrine energije. Vrlo esto je voda u tunelu bila do iznad koljena, pa je ponekad bilo potrebno ak i dva sata kako bi se dolo na drugu stranu. Ne zna se tano koliko je ljudi prolo kroz tunel, ali je tokom opsade zabiljeeno oko 1.120.812 prolaza. Autor ovog teksta je do slobode i nazad tunelom proao etiri puta. Tih godina Sarajlije su bile sretne ako su imale priliku da dobiju dozvolu prolaska kroz ovu klaustrofobinu rupu koja je simbolizirala spas. Jedan od njih je na izlazu iz tunela, na butmirskoj strani, plavim nomasterom napisao Pariz, 3,765 km. Duga pria o tunelu uva se u ratnom muzeju Tunel D-B (Tunel spasa) u Butmiru, gdje brojni eksponati, te ouvani dio tunela u duini od 20 metara svjedoe o vremenu sarajevskog pakla.
O autoru Sead Kre{evljakovi} ro|en je 1973. godine u Sarajevu i poti~e iz ugledne sarajevske porodice. Njegov djed Hamdija Kre{evljakovi} bio je jedan od najzna~ajnijih bh. histori~ara, a otac Muhamed, tako|er histori~ar po profesiji, postao je 1991. godine prvi demokratski izabrani gradona~elnik Sarajeva. Sead Kre{evljakovi} je po~asni konzul Republike San Marino u BiH, a sa bratom blizancem Nihadom osnovao je i U.G. Videoarhiv - Biblioteka Hamdija Kre{evljakovi}, koje amrmira kulturno naslije|e Sarajeva i BiH.

Ashkenazi Synagogue
A{kena{ka sinagoga Ashkenazi Synagogue was built in 1902 by Karl Parik as the mrst religious object to be constructed in a then-popular pseudo-Moorish style. It is the third biggest synagogue in Europe. Akenaka sinagoga je izgraena 1902. godine, po projektu Karla Parika, kao prvi vjerski objekt u pseudomaurskom stilu. Trea je po veliini u Evropi.

Ba{~ar{ija Baarija is the heart of old Sarajevo. The building started in 1462 and reached its culmination by the middle of 16th century. In the center of it is Sebilj (from Arabic word depicting a kiosk-like public fountain) designed by the Czech architect Alexander Vitek. Baarija je srce starog Sarajeva. Izgradnja je zapoeta 1462. godine, a procvat doivljava u 16. stoljeu. U centru Baarije se nalazi Sebilj (ar. Sebilj - javna esma u obliku kioska) kojeg je dizajnirao arhitekt Aleksandar Vitek.

Cathedral of Jesus Sacred Heart

Katedrala Srca Isusova The seat of the Archbishop of Vrhbosna (Upper Bosnia), Cathedral of Jesus Sacred Heart, was built in a neo-gothic style in 1889. The tomb of Josip tadler, Archbishop of Vrhbosna from the turn of the 20th century, is located in the Cathedral. Katedrala Srca Isusova prvostolna je crkva Vrhbosanske nadbiskupije, a sagraena je u neogotikom stilu 1889. godine. Grobnica Josipa tadlera, vrhbosanskog nadbiskupa sa poetka 20. stoljea koji je inicirao izgradnju ovog objekta, nalazi se u Katedrali.

City Hall
Vije}nica
City Hall (Vijenica), a symbol of Sarajevo, is the most beautiful example of pseudo-Moorish building. Erected in 1896, it was the seat of city authorities and after World War II it became the National Library. During 1992 shelling, 90 percent of invaluable books and manuscripts were destroyed. It is currently under reconstruction. Vijenica, simbol Sarajeva, najljepi je objekt izgraen u pseudomaurskom stilu. Izgraena je 1896. i bila je sjedite gradske uprave, a nakon Drugog svjetskog rata u njoj je bila smjetena Nacionalna biblioteka. Granatirana je i spaljena 1992., kada je izgorjelo 90 posto neprocjenjivog kulturnog blaga. Trenutno se vri rekonstrukcija.

Congregational Church of the Holy Mother

Saborna crkva Presvete Bogorodice Congregational Church of the Holy Mother is the largest Orthodox house of worship in Sarajevo. It was built in 1868 toward the end of Ottoman rule, by the Macedonian architect Andrija Damjanov. The interior is decorated by richly-painted ornaments. Saborna crkva Presvete Bogorodice je najvei pravoslavni objekt u Sarajevu. Projektirao ju je Makedonac Andrija Damjanov, a sagraena je 1868. godine, pred kraj osmanskog vladanja Bosnom. Interijer je bogato ukraen ornamentima.

Emperors Mosque
Careva damija
Emperors Mosque (Careva damija) was built in 1457 by the founder of Sarajevo, Isa Bey Ishakovi, in honor of Sultan Mehmed II El-Fatih. The initial wooden construction burned down and was rebuilt in 1566 by the order of Sultan Suleiman the Great, and at the request of inhabitants of Sarajevo. Careva damija izgraena je 1457., u ast sultana Mehmeda II El-Fatiha, a gradnju je mnansirao osniva Sarajeva Isa-beg Ishakovi. Prvobitna drvena konstrukcija je izgorjela, a damija je na zahtjev Sarajlija, a po nareenju sultana Sulejmana Velianstvenog, 1566. ponovo izgraena.

Franjevaka crkva sv. Ante Padovanskog The church was built in 1914 by Josip Vanca in a neo-gothic style. Adjacent to the church is a monastery and a 43 meters high tower. The interior contains valuable religious artwork, such as The Last Supper by uro Seder. Franjevaka crkva sv. Ante Padovanskog je sagraena 1914. godine po projektu Josipa Vancaa, u neogotikom stilu. Pored nje su izgraeni samostan i toranj visok 43 metra. Interijer je bogat raznim religioznim umjetninama, poput slike Posljednja veera autora ure Sedera.

Gazi Husrev Beys Mosque

Gazi Husrev-begova d`amija Gazi Husrev Beys Mosque is the most important Islamic house of worship in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Constructed in 1531, it was left to the city by Gazi Husrev Bey, the Ottoman ruler of Bosnia. The mosque is only a part of Gazi Husrev Beys substantial bequest to the city. Gazi Husrev-begova damija je najznaajniji islamski vjerski objekt u BiH. Izgraena je 1531., a zadubina je Gazi Husrev-bega, tadanjeg osmanskog namjesnika. Damija je samo dio velike Gazi Husrev-begove ostavtine.

The Latin Bridge

Latinska }uprija
The Latin Bridge was built in 16th century but acquired world fame for the infamous Sarajevo Assassination. Precisely from this spot Gavrilo Princip shot and killed Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne - archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophia, which triggered the start of World War I. Latinska uprija je izgraena u 16. stoljeu, a postala je svjetski poznata po Sarajevskom atentatu. Tu je Gavrilo Princip usmrtio austrougarskog prijestolonasljednika Franza Ferdinanda i njegovu suprugu Somju, to je bio povod za poetak Prvog svjetskog rata.

The Old Orthodox Church

Stara pravoslavna crkva The Old Orthodox Church was built in 16th century. Unique for its atypical architecture, this church has been safe guarding holy icons and religious relics for centuries. There are several interesting legends and folk tales related to its founding. Stara pravoslavna crkva sagraena je u 16. stoljeu. Unikatna zbog netipine arhitekture, ova crkva ve vijekovima uva veliko blago u vidu svetih moti i raznih relikvija, a postoji i nekoliko interesantnih legendi vezanih za njen nastanak.

The Old Temple

Stari hram The Old Temple (Il Cal Grande) was built in 1581 upon the arrival of Sephardic Jews to Sarajevo. The ruler of the European territory of Ottoman Empire gave orders and mnanced its construction to accommodate to Jews expelled from Spain. Today, the temple houses the Jewish Museum. Stari hram (Il Cal Grande) sagraen je 1581. po doseljenju Sefarda u Sarajevo. Tadanji rumelijski beglerbeg dao je 1580. nareenje i mnansijska sredstva za izgradnju hrama za Jevreje protjerane iz panije. Danas je u Starom hramu smjeten Muzej Jevreja.

Tunnel of Hope
Tunel spasa Built under the runway of Sarajevo Airport in 1993, the Tunnel of Hope was the citys only connection with the outside world during the four years of siege. A portion of it remains open today. (For organized tours contact tourist agencies.) Tunel spasa izgraen je ispod aerodromske piste 1993. i bio je jedina veza Sarajeva sa ostatkom svijeta za vrijeme etverogodinje opsade. Danas je dio tunela otvoren za posjete. hanks to the Book Fair, an international literary manifestation which started back in 1988, every April Sarajevo turns into a top attraction for writers and publishers from BiH and the region. As one of the most visited cultural events in the region, the Fair is rightly considered a literary festivity in Sarajevo and this year there is even more to celebrate as it marks its 25th anniversary. Since 2002 the Fair has been organized by KSC Skenderija, ahinpai Publishing and the BiH Association of Publishers and Bookshops. Every year more than 200 exhibitors present at the Fair, over 150,000 titles are on offer, about 100 promotions are held and the Fair is visited by more than 50,000 people, all of which attest to its success. This years Book Fair will present a wide range of literary works from BiH, the region and the world, and many items will be on sale. Promotions of local authors are held in the Bosnian house at the center of the fair, which is also a meeting place for writers, publishers and the public. If you wish to enrich your private library or delight a friend with the best possible gift (a book!), then be sure to visit the 25th Annual International Book Fair, April 17-23 at CSC Skenderija!

Jedan od najposje enijih kulturnih dogaaja u regiji se s pravom smatra praznikom knjievnosti u Sarajevu, a ove godine slavi i znaajan jubilej 25 godina postojanja. Uspjeh Sajma, kojeg od 2002. godine zajedno organiziraju KSC Skenderija, izdava ka ku a ahinpai i Udruenje izdavaa i knjiara BiH, dokazuju sve impresivniji brojevi na Sajmu svake godine izlae preko 200 izlaga a, nudi se preko 150.000 naslova, odri se oko 100 promocija, a posjeti ga vie od 50.000 ljudi. I ove godine e Sajam knjiga predstaviti raznovrsnu ponudu knjievnih djela iz BiH, regiona i svijeta, uz brojne popuste. Centralni dio Sajma je Bosanska ku a, mjesto gdje se odvijaju promocije djela doma ih knjievnika, te susreti pisaca, izdava a i publike. I Breathe in Sarajevo Like I Breathe the Air!

ust before the April edition of Sarajevo Navigator was sent for printing, we enjoyed a pleasant conversation with Ivica ari over a Nescaf at Vienna Caf (Hotel Europe). Ivica serves as Minister of Culture and Sport for Canton Sarajevo, and he is also an outstanding opera singer, taking the lead in the National Theaters operatic performances. While he was born in Kraljeva Sutjeska, which was the seat of Bosnian kings during the Middle Ages, Ivica refers to himself as a 47-year-old Sarajevan because he moved here when he was a child and grew up in the Pofalii neighborhood on what used to be Pofalika Street (now Drinska). Ivicas favorite part of town lies between Ferhadija and Baarija, where he enjoys hearing the chatter of people on the streets. He usually drinks coffee at Vatra or Fis, where he is still considered a regular guest, just like when he used to socialize with Sarajevo legends like basketball player, Mirza Delibai and singer, Davorin Popovi. As for lunch and dinner with friends, Ivica frequents Kod Kibeta or Park prineva, and evabdinicas Galatasaray and Brajlovi in Ilida are his top choices. Ivica makes special mention of the beauty and greenery along Wilsons Promenade and the pleasant walks one can take from Dariva to Kozja (Goats) Bridge. He is always happy to visit Bjelanica and Igman Mountains, as well as

Rado posjeuje planine Bjelanicu i Igman, te planinarski dom Hrvatskog kulturnog drutva Napredak na Trebeviu.

the mountain house for the Croatian Cultural Association, Napredak, on Trebevi. Besides the National Theater, which is where he performs, his favorite building is Vijenica (City Hall). He is proud of the many cultural festivals Sarajevo has to offer and he considers them almost like his children, since the Ministry of Culture and Sport plays a meaningful role in supporting such events. He takes in almost every cultural event on his own time and stresses the importance of the National Theaters Opera and Ballet companies. Ivica enjoys many vantage points around Sarajevo and his favorite view is from the garden at the restaurant, Kod Bibana, and he appreciates the lovely panoramas seen from Park prineva and Kod Kibeta. He says that visitors should not just come for one day, and he recommends taking a stroll from Wilsons Promenade to Baarija and visiting the aforementioned sites for views of Sarajevo. For Ivica, it is impossible not to love Sarajevo and we closed our conversation with a few lines from a song that he has recently recorded: - Its a quiet night in my town / the heart is where the home is / Sarajevo is half asleep, its dreams are fragile / without it, its as if I dont exist / I breathe it like the air.

Uz Narodno pozorite, na ijoj sceni nastupa, njegova omiljena graevina je Vijenica. Ponosan je na mnogobrojne sarajevske kulturne festivale, koje doivljava kao svoju djecu, s obzirom na znaajnu ulogu koje Ministarstvo kulture i sporta KS ima u podrci ovim manifestacijama. Privatno posjeuje gotovo sva kulturna deavanja, a istie bitnost Opere i Baleta pri Narodnom pozoritu. Ivica ari posebno uiva u pogledima na Sarajevo, a njegov omiljeni pogled prua se iz bate restorana Kod Bibana, iako istie i ljepotu panorama iz restorana Park prineva i Kod Kibeta. Posjetiteljima Sarajeva Ivica poruuje da se u Sarajevo ne dolazi na jedan dan, te preporuuje etnju od Vilsonovog etalita do Baarije i posjetu pomenutim sarajevskim vidikovcima. Istie kako je Sarajevo grad koji se ne moe ne voljeti, a na razgovor zakljuuje stihovima pjesme koju je nedavno snimio: - Mirna no je u gradu mom/gdje je srce tu je i dom/ Sarajevo drijema, san mu tako lak/bez njeg kao da me nema/diem ga ko zrak.

DOGAAJI U APRILU

n April spring arrives in its wondrous attire and at the beginning of this month we celebrate April 6 the Day of the city of Sarajevo. As in other years, the Day of the city will be marked by many interesting events and there will certainly be no shortage of engaging events for the rest of the month. In honor of the Day of the city of Sarajevo and the 4th anniversary of BBI Center, the childrens festival, arena nedjelja (Colorful Week) will be held in front of BBI Center April 4-14. Youngsters will enjoy their time with popular performers, magicians, clowns, merry-go-rounds and go carts.... This April, Dom mladih will launch a series of concerts during The Cactus Music Scene, which will be held every Friday in the Doms amphitheater. The following renowned Sarajevo bands will perform: Billy Andol and Basheskia & Edward EQ (April 5), Letu tuke and Snieno vladanje (April 12), Vela Havle and the DJs El Karinho and Djarmah (April 19); plus Erogene zone and S.P.U.K. (April 26). Then there are the concerts at Art Cinema Kriterion: the Serbian band, Block Out, will perform on April 5 and the outstanding BiH band, Dubioza Kolektiv, will perform on April 16. These are just some of the events that lie ahead this month, so we suggest that you take a close look at our calendar in order to mnd out all that is happening in Sarajevo this April, and visit our website, www.sonar.ba, which is regularly updated with new information about events.

arajevo has ample opportunities for really excellent food ranging from traditional Bosnian to various sorts of international cuisine. Generally speaking, eating light is not the Sarajevo way. But, while here, it would be a shame not to try tasty local dishes, some of which can be eaten only in this city. Traditional Bosnian fast food restaurants are either cafeteria-style ainias, while pitas (phyllo dough mlled with various ingredients) are found in buregdinicas. evap~ii (spiced ground beef balls) can be eaten at evabdinicas. Although these Bosnian fast food restaurants can be found throughout the city, the majority of them are concentrated in Baarija (old Turkish quarter). The local cuisine is heavily innuenced by Turkish one, but with major differences. Typical meals served in ainias are sarajevski sahan, a meal comprised of various dolmas (vegetables stuffed with meat and rice), bosanski lonac, a thick stew-like soup made of meat and vegetables, bamija (okra dish with lamb meat) to name a few. You should make sure not to miss one of the most popular local specialties various versions of pitas (a thin phyllo dough pastry mlled with meat or vegetables such as potato, spinach or even squash). Baarijas most popular street is Kazandiluk (Coppersmith Street), where you can mnd superbly created engraved copper products, such as dezve (cofee pots), mldani (coffee cups), ibrici (copper water dish) The citys jewelry makers were well known throughout the Ottoman Empire for their particular designs. Some of the unique jewelry items found on Baarija are beautifully crafted belenzuci (thick wrist bracelets), rings, necklaces, earrings, decorative golden coins Jewelry makers (silver and gold smiths) are mostly located on Gazi Husrev-begova Street (commonly Zlatarska or the Goldsmiths street). Traditional carpets, decorated with specimc Bosnian pattern, will certainly impress you with its beauty. You may purchase them in carpet shops throughout Baarija. While in Baarija, you can also visit the Gazi Husrev Beys Bezistan (covered bazaar), which was built between 1537 and 1555 and contains various interesting shops.

Moete ih kupiti u nekoj od prodavnica ilima, koje su razbacane po Baariji. Na Baariji moete posjetiti i Gazi Husrev-begov bezistan, izgraen izmeu 1537. i 1555. godine, u kojem se i danas nalaze brojne zanimljive prodavnice.

Sarajevo is well connected with a network of trams, trolley-buses, buses and minibuses. The one-way ticket for an inner-city zone is 1.6 KM if you purchase it in a kiosk. However, if you purchase it with a driver, the one-way ticket costs 1.8 KM.

Gradski saobra}aj
Sarajevo je dobro uvezano javnim gradskim saobra}ajem. U gradu funkcioni{e mre`a tramvaja, trolejbusa, autobusa i kombija. Karte ko{taju 1,6 KM po vo`nji ukoliko se karta kupi u kiosku, dok, kada je kupujete kod voza~a, njena cijena iznosi 1,8 KM. Kartu obavezno morate poni{titi pri ulazu u vozilo jer ete u protivnom biti ka`njeni na licu mjesta. Trenutno ne postoji autobuska linija koja povezuje Aerodrom sa centrom grada. The ticket must be punched as soon as you enter the vehicle. Failure to do so will result in a mne, on the spot. There is currently no direct bus line which connects the Airport with the city center.
