TACLOBAN CITYAmid accusations of massive and rampant vote-buying, a former city ocial claimed that the recent electoral exercise was the dirtiest and most expensive so far in this city. This came after he learned that vote-buying was noted to reach up to the third wave with the actual payment done house-to-house and in front of the polling centers during the Election Day.

The city has never experienced this kind of electoral exercise where the people waited until after receiving up to P3,000 for their 12-0 votes, promised to them after voting. Monitoring teams, however noted that despite the massive buying and selling activities, majority of the polling places were orderly and peaceful; even after a radio station in Manila announced that Mayor Alfred Romualdez to page 7

andidates never lose during elections; they are just being cheated by their opponents. This is what politicians have in mind, explaining why election-related protests immediately follow, as if these were part of the electoral process. It is common knowledge among politicians themselves that, in order to win, various sorts of gimmickry and fraud have to be employed to win the votes of the electorate. But the application of these means varies in degree, and it is most often dictated by money. And so those who lack this element usually end up as losers, unable to beat their rivals. Come the proclamation of winners, then, losers resort to uproarious complaints instead of admitting defeat. This in part is caused by that knowledge that, just like they did, trickery has been employed, causing their defeat. As if they are not guilty of the same, they turn
Abused empowerment
In the face of frequent violence committed against women, laws had been legislated to protect and empower these weaker sex against abusive men. This indeed is a commendable, heroic act coming to the womens rescue, something that shouldnt be ignored. But while these laws are there to protect women, we cannot deny the fact that some women of different breed, personality, and drives; women who are strong, malicious, and equally abusive, can actually use these same legislations to victimize weak and unsuspecting men who are just carrying out daily chores in good faith. the fact that some notorious women, with family backgrounds as being spoiled brats, quarrelsome, and sore against, say, men for their perhaps ugly looks that turn men off, can actually make use of these laws to ruin the lives of the men they pick on. A slight, unintentional offense that a man does, say in his sleep, can be manipulated by a woman of this caliber just for sheer adventurism, sadistic vengeance, destructive intent, and attraction of peoples attention to herself, especially if the man has a to page 5
Why, when these pro-women laws were hatched, they imply as if only men are capable of savage and notorious treatment of women, making the men appear as the monstrous villains who should be guarded for their animalistic tendencies. Women, on the other hand, are portrayed as harmless, tender, and
spotless lambs not in any way capable of doing foolishness but are merely the objects of criminal offenses. In perceiving women as generally like this, lawmakers were overacting or showing off in their so-called heroic act of saving and protecting the female gender. They must have closed their eyes to

With index crimes constantly escalating in stat charts, violence related to elections never ceases, just as what is going on in the Philippines this current election imbroglio. Many of those who were included in the administration slate in this midterm elections are people who are far from straight if not downright crooked. The accommodation of senatorial bets that fall short of the advocacys exacting standards would certainly compromise the campaign against graft and corruption. People are fully aware that some of the big names in the administration lineup are up in line for investigation and prosecution. Straightness
Pity the president as he is put to compromise his popularity that run on his Daang Matuwid advocacy. The illustration of a smooth and straight road contrasted to the rough and crooked path that his predecessor journeyed proved as an effective message for the hopeless Filipinos to choose what is right after being submissive to the corrupt ways of a woman despot who stretched too much near yield point the patience of the people. The options were clear that voters would identify with the choice that brings hope to the hopeless after living in a hapless state. With the needed support and trust by the people, the president peaked in approval rating as he pursued to correct the iniquitous and anomalous catapulting of one Renato C. Corona to the top magistrates seat. The appointment made by her predecessor was a mockery of our constitutional tenets and principles. The fight to rid the judiciary of such an anomalous appointee who got the backing of the collegial tribunal, the president had to harness the support of the legislature to give

impetus to initiatives to impeach the chief magistrate. After the removal of the chief justice, people keep their hope that institutional reforms will soon follow, beginning with the prosecution of the then doubtful president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. The campaign was strengthened with the tapping of one incorruptible and tough woman to head the ombudsman. Suddenly, the inept and corrupted image of that office was reversed into one that enjoys the trust of the people. The prosecution of graft cases started moving after years of stagnation in the selective dustbin of voluminous piles clogging the nook of cases for investigation. The promise of a straight path is somehow being carried to satisfy or even just get close to an acceptable approximation of the ideal that was envisioned at the outset of the presidential campaign in 2010. MATTHIAS, Apostle
On October 16th, 1978, a plume of white smoke rose from St. Peters in Rome announcing the election of the Polish cardinal, Karol Wojtyla, as the new Pope, John Paul II. The election was carried out by the secret ballot of the cardinals of the Church. Before electing the new Pope, the cardinals spent a long time in prayer, reflection and discussion before each session of secret voting. In electing the Pope, prayer and politics combined. So it was with the election of Matthias. The Apostles were guided by the Spirit to fill the post left empty by the betrayal of Judas. They assembled the Church, one hundred and twenty disciples, and held discussions. Then they put forward the names of two men considered worthy to join the company of the Apostles. They left the final decision to the Lord and resolved the election by drawing lots. The lot fell to Matthias. The primary task of the newly-elected apostle was to be a witness to the resurrection of Jesus. There is no greater work for him to do. All the other tasks of the Church can be shared out among the entire community, from teaching to the caring of the poor, from community prayer to arranging missions. But the foundation of it all is the witness to the truth of the resurrection, and this experience was given, first and foremost, to the Apostles. We ourselves are todays witnesses to the Lord. The Lord makes himself known to us, and chooses us. Let us take up our mission. (His Word is Life by Vima Dasan, S.J., published by Paulines. Unfortunately, closing down Digitels landline network created a redundancy situation. The regular jobs in Digitel are simply no longer there because the Digitel network is being decommissioned and its customers are being migrated to PLDT. Digitel has taken every possible step to cushion the impact of the redundancy program. It provided affected employees a generous redundancy package about twice the value required by law plus medical benefits. The Company has also helped affected employees find alternative employment, Pangan noted. That is how 388 former Digitel employees were hired by PLDT, Sun Cellular and other affiliated companies, while others have been referred to service providers. We have also provided seminars and workshops for those interested in setting up small businesses, he said. In short, we have done everything possible to deal with this difficult situation in a fair, responsible and humane manner, he pointed out. Digitel also clarified that the Supreme Court did not order the reinstatement of the 13 dismissed employees in 2005. It did order the payment of compensation. As the SC said in its decision: We adhere to the oft-quoted doctrine that separation pay may avail in lieu of reinstatement if reinstatement is no longer practical or in the best interest of the parties. Under the doctrine of strained relations, the payment of separation pay is considered an acceptable alternative to reinstatement when the latter option is no longer desirable or viable. On one hand, such payment liberates the employee from what could be a highly oppressive work environment. On the other hand, it releases the employer from the grossly unpalatable ob-

So what they do is make use of the laws that back them up to subject their chosen men to mental and psychological anguish, without consideration and forgiveness, even if they know the offense is very light and negligible, just so they can enjoy and maximize women empowerment while getting the worlds attention to themselves as a beauty men cannot help but stumble upon.
