6.0 PROCEDURE
This Instruction describes the actual steps to be taken and sequence of events necessary to enable satisfactory completion of each activity.

7.0 RECEIVING HANDLING AND STORAGE

Proper care and protection shall be provided during receiving, handling and storage of pipe materials and precast manhole to prevent damage stresses or deformation.

8.0 EXCAVATION
8.1 Excavation and trenching will be done in accordance with approved method statement. 8.2 Proper care and protection shall be provided to prevent damage to all existing facilities (foundations, services, pipelines) on above, or below the surface of the area where excavation and backfill operations are to be performed. 8.3 Underground obstructions (piping, foundations, and structures) shall not be removed altered without ARAMCO/PSAL approval. 8.4 Trenches shall be kept dry as much as possible during bedding, laying, jointing, testing and inspection of the pipe.

9.0 BEDDING
9.1 Bedding material to be used shall be dune sand in accordance with SAES-A-114 9.2 Dune/Clean sand shall be placed under the pipe, equally along both sides of the pipe and up to height of 300mm above the top of pipe. The sand shall not contain stones larger than 12 mm size 9.3 Bedding materials shall be compacted to the density of the undisturbed site soil materials or as specified on the AFC drawings 9.4 Compacted pipe bed shall provided uniform bearing for the bottom of the pipes entire length.

10.0

PIPE LAYING AND JOINTING

10.1 Pipe shall be laid beginning at the lowest point in trenches. 10.2 Pipes with spigot ends shall be inspected for loose gaskets, cracks, and other defects prior to installation. Inspected pipe shall be carefully placed to the line and grade specified on AFC drawings nested in the bedding to provide uniform support to entire length. 10.3 When pipe laying is suspended, the pipe ends shall be sealed to keep soil and foreign materials out.
