Heres a couple things we know about the month of May: First, May marks the beginning of summer and a Texas summer is usually HOT and long, but if you kept to your New Years resolution to be a gym rat, then nows your time to shine. Youre not going to be the guy in the pool with a t-shirt on this year, nope. Some of us use the summer to travel and make more memories in life. The rest of the lucky ones just continue the year-round work/ school grind while were looking out the window, sad and salty, thinking about how we never get a real summer anymore. Speaking of school, the second thing we know is that its graduation season. Those four or five ormore than five years you spent here are coming to an end, and thats great because its over! Now all you have to do is survive the real world and try not to end up back at your parents crib.

6 STUDENTS FIGHTING THEIR WAY TO THE TOP REVEAL THEIR DREAMS AND PLANS TO MAKE IT BIG

KAYLEE CARTER: Top Model

You may recognize Tech student KayLee Carter from TTUs transfer admissions catalog and dining plan brochure, the Rec Centers leisure pool advertising or a table topper from a cafeteria on campus. (Maybe she even read your palm when Glamour hired her for an event or bought you a shot as a Fireball promo girl.) And though she seems to be living the dream, alternating school and shoots, she admits there is a downside: You can only get hit on by drunk boys on Broadway who spill their beers on you and try to get you to grind on tables so many times before you just want to kick someone and go home. When did you start modeling?

Professionally I started at 17, but as a little girl I set up modeling shoots with my little sisters every other day and would walk all around the neighborhood for good spots with my disposable cameras!
What has been your favorite gig?

KayLee Carter, 22 Hometown: Dallas Major: Art Education

I did an Evil Eve inspired shoot with a 6-foot snake! I wore a vine corset, leather pants, crazy eyelashes, and laid in a pool of ivy with the snake wrapping itself around my body!
What are your thoughts on selfies?

FOLLOW HER ADVENTURES!

facebook.com/kaylee.cartermodel Instagram: kaylcart

I do them all the time. Gotta practice. NO SHAME! Duck faces? Not a huge fan.
What do you see in your modeling future?

Im not too sure how far I will take this, or how far it will take me! I would LOVE to travel around the world modeling. I have been given opportunities to model abroad, but the timing hasnt been right yet.
What advice would you give to aspiring models?

Get experience. Love what you do. Start meeting people. If you have everything it takes, hook up with a wonderful agency! 12 | MAY 2013 | STUDYBREAKS.COM

NOA BELILLTI: Saving the Earth One Bean Bag Chair at a Time
When we first saw Noa Belilltis bean bags, we couldnt take our eyesand later, assesoff em. Not only are Green Beans bean bags ridiculously comfortable, theyre also environmentally friendly, which is a concept we can definitely get behind. Noas rapidly expanding company outfitted the Google lounge during SXSW, and who knows where people will be lucky enough to lounge next. For now, we suggest you snag your own Grean Beans bagbut not if you ever plan on getting up, like, ever. Describe Green Beans:

PHOTO: STEPHEN DEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY

Green Beans is a bean bag chair company that is saving the world, one bean bag at a time. Consciously making an effort to apply the reuse part of the recycling triangle, we take materials that cannot biodegrade in the environment, that are being produced in mass quantities and taking space in landfills, to create new, comfortable alternative furniture.

of an ocean, never todisintegrate back to the earth. We cannot ignore that these materials exist; we can only learn how to put them to better use until all production of the material has ceased.
Where do you see your company in the future?

We are helping to spread recycling and reusing awareness, but mostly by actively intercepting these materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill or float along the surface

I see Green Beans bean bags in living rooms, in dorm rooms, at tailgates, as the seating at events, camping, and in so many other settings. Once you sit in a Green Bean, then you get it. The comfort is undeniable, and it feels good to know that you are helping mother earth.

ANH NGUYEN: The Brain Behind Some Badass Bow Ties

Anh Nguyen is the crazy-creative mindand handcreating top-notch bow ties and selling the dreamy designs under his brand, En Pointe. If youre looking to step up your suit or take your tux to the next level, hes your guy. To look like a boss, grab a bow tie nowya know, before he graduates, gets big and you cant afford em anymore. Describe your design business:

How did you get the idea to make and sell your product?

How did you learn to tie a bow tie?

Well, I took a sewing class and a visual merchandising class here in spring 2011; I learned some sewing basics and about store atmospherics. Martha Stewart was just the final push behind my business.
But why bow ties?

I just Googled it. Its a very powerful tool.

What advice do you have for students with great ideas who dont know where to start?

The idea came when I was in a parking lot with a couple of friends. I was making bow ties for my friends just for fun back then. We were just talking and then one of them [was]

Just start. You have to realize that you have everything you need around you to start a business of your own.
What are you working on next?

Who knows! I always like toying with new ideas and concepts, so well see.

I grew up in Ghana, Africa, and back home, I had about two clothing lines. It wasnt anything major, just a high [schooler] with ambition and zeal trying to make a couple of extra bucks doing what I love. I used to buy blank t-shirts, paint on them and sell them to my classmates. It was very successful all through high school, and then I had to come over to the states and continue college. First, I took the time to study life around here, the opportunities, and, you know, everything I could gather, to help me establish a clothing brand.

I really wanted to do something unique and out of this world. It took me about a year to finally come up with the idea of a Square Neck T-Shirt. And finding a manufacturer, the funds, and the materials are another part of the story, but I wont even go there.
What plans do you have for Certified Dress Code? Where do you see your lineinfiveyears?

How did you get the idea for a square neckT-shirt?

I have a gazillion of them (if thats even a word). But on a serious note, I do have a lot of plans for the brand, and each day I make the point to take a step closer. In five years, I see Certified Dress Code LLC as a major worldwide luxury clothing brand.

21 KILLER TIPS FOR SCORING

THE MAKE-IT-OR-BREAK-IT GUIDE TO GETTING THE GIG
Itd be nice if for a job interview all you had to do was show up, smile and razzle-dazzle em with your keg stand skills, BUTsadlyapparently post-college, professionalism is kiiiiinda required. And now that youve traded beer bongs for your Bachelors (at least on the week days), its time to jump on the whole job thang and score yourself a gnarly 9-5with the help of our tricks, tricks and generally expert advice. Youve got the guide, now whatre you waiting for? Suit up!
WORDS: SB STAFF

THE JOB OF YOUR DREAMS

10 WAYS TO SCREW UP YOUR INTERVIEW

SIMPLE MISTAKES SMART STUDENTS MAKE

ROCK-YOUR5 RESUME STRATEGIES

HOW TO MAKE YOURS STAND OUT IN THE STACK
1. PICK GOOD PAPER This isnt Legally Blonde and pink and scented aint professional, aight?! Same goes for papyrus, Cleopatra; keep that shit in 3,000 BC. 2. ONLY INCLUDE WHATS RELEVANT You were a middle school cheerleader?! I knew youd make a perfect investment banker! said NO ONE EVER. 3. KEEP IT SHORT AND SWEET Most reasonably educated people cant take more than a page of 50 Shades of Grey; you can bet your ass they dont want more than a page detailing your Power Point expertise. 4. FOREGO FANCY FONTS Youre probably better off using Wingdings than Comic Sans. No, seriously. 5. PASS ON THE PURPLE When it comes to color, opt for a professional paletteunless youre applying to be a 7th grade girl. (And in that case, add some <3 <3 <3s and DoNt FoRgEt To TyPe LiKe ThIs.)

1. ARRIVE LATE Oh, Im sorryyyythe drive thru at Starbucks was just PACKED. Enjoy your vanilla latteand unemployment. 2. ARRIVE TOO EARLY Oh, dont mind me; Ill just sit here awkwardly next to your desk for an hour. Yeah, people mind. 3. WEAR TOO MUCH PERFUME/ COLOGNE Axe may win you the adoration of females, but it wont win the admiration of your potential employer. Meanwhile, that Dolce and Gabbana? Superb for scoring sex in the Caribbean. (Commercials dont lie!) But a job? Not so much. 4. OR FORGET DEODORANT Sweaty palms are one thing; sweaty pits are another. 5. DRESS LIKE A SCRUB Whether youre applying on Wallstreet or at Walmart, no one wants to hire the kid in the jorts. Hell, no one even wants to hang out with the kid in the jorts. Think of your interviewers as TLC: No, they dont want no scrubs. (*sassy snap*)

6. KISS ASS Theres an approximate 1% chance you admire your interviewers pet ferret, porcelain kitten collection or pleated khakis. Dont bullshit a compliment, kids. (And if they have all three of these things, we recommend you apply somewhere else.) 7 . ACT COCKY Confidence is one thing; cockiness is another. If you find yourself veering towards the Mike The Situation end of the spectrum, step it down a notch or 12. 8. ACT IMMATURE If you laughed at the aforementioned cocky, you need not applyanywhere. 9. SHOW UP HUNGRY Those 120-decibel stomach rumbles may scream I want this job! but more in a because-I-cant-afford-food way than a because-Im-qualified way. 10.
FORGET THE THANK YOU You thank your Nana post-Christmas for those heinous sweaters you dont want. Why wouldnt you thank your interviewer post-interview for a job you DO want? Exaaactly.

We Dive Into Chase Darnell's Passion

COMPILED BY: AUGUSTA NEAL

PEOPLE,EVENTSANDOUTRAGEOUSNESSYOUGOTTAKNOWABOUTNOW

OCEAN ADVENTURER

Age:22 Hometown:Jolly Major:PublicRelations

While other Texans were raised hunting, fishing, and riding horses or dirt bikes, TTUs Chase Darnell was hitting coasts and diving in oceans. Now he and his sister run Anchored Productions, a website where they showcase their photography and cinematography talentall below sea level, of course. Chase started out with simply a waterproof GoPro camera in the spring of 2011, but he has since then spent every cent earned on newer and better cameras, equipment and software for the website, so you can rest assured a visit to Anchored Productions site means an HD visit to life below the surface. After graduation, Chase is off to teach diving and do photo and video work, plus social media, for DNS Diving Company in the Cayman Islands. I already have my one-way ticket out of the country and am completely and utterly excited for the new experience, Chase says. Once I move to Cayman, I will have unlimited access to my playground: the ocean.

We know more about outer space than we do about the ocean, so I use my work to show people who may have never laid eyes on it, how beautiful it is.

Its hard to re-adjust to the real world after life in a beer-scented bubble, butapparentlyits not impossible. Just take these tips and youll be damn good at being a grown up in no time.

STOP EATING CRAP

It might be strange to wean yourself off a diet of ramen and beer, but hey! You have a job now! You have money! You can afford food that, ya know, requires teeth.

UNFRIEND COLLEGE KIDS

While youre workin in the coal mines (or office), youll fall into a pit of post-college depression with toga party pics blowing up your newsfeed. Block those lucky bastards ASAP.

MOVE FAR, FAR AWAY

It's tempting to casually "stop by" campus uhhevery day. But after 23, we're sorry, ogling 18-year-old asses just isn't acceptableif you get caught.

HIT UP OKCUPID
Getting laid is a lot harder sans trashy co-eds and trash can punch, but luckily there are plenty of horny people in the real world tooand theyre just a click (for a dick) away!

ADOPT A PET
Remember that beloved roommate who was loud, needy and occasionally got drunk and peed on the carpet? Turns out theyre easily replaced with a disobedient puppy.

Madeline Drake
Age: 19 Height: 58 School: Southern Methodist University Major: Business Management & Spanish Relationship Status: Single One thing that impresses you when youre out on a date? When a guy is comfortable being himself! I love if my date is just being real with who he is. Whats the creepiest move a guy has ever tried to pull on you? I was at a party and this guy kept following me around. I was super sketched out by it, so my friend and I decided to test it and hide in the bathroom for a second. When we came out, he was waiting by the door and asked for my number before he even knew my name! Needless to say, I said I had a boyfriend and peaced out! What are your plans after Graduation? Living in LA and running car dealerships! All-time favorite TFM or TSM? Louboutin red, ritual white, Tiffany blue. TSM.

Dont get marriedlet everyone else do it first. You dont want to be the first one to get married, trust me. Play a shit ton of golf. Golf is the universal language of business, other than money, of course. Get good at it, and youll be landing job offers, clients and climbing the corporate ladder with every drive, approach, chip and putt. For the love of God, dont move back in with your parentsever. Your parents will judge your social, drinking and sexual habits. Also, good luck trying to convince a potential hookup partner to come back to your parents house at closing time. Get your shit together and grow up. Live in a bar district. You have the rest of your adult life to live in the suburbs. This is where the magic happens in your city. Be a part of it. Schedule an annual reunion weekend with all of your friends. Every town has awesome pub crawls, fundraisers and sporting events every year. Invite all of your friends one year and watch the feathers of debauchery fly. Travel. Im not talking about those weekend trips to see friends, Im talking about going to places in the world youve only seen on TV. Set aside some money each year to go somewhere badass and turn yourself into the envy of all your Instagram followers. Dont live with your best friend. Instead of spending the weekends out on the town with one another, youre the first person you and your friend see after you wake up and after every depressing day at the office. Economize your happy hour. You cant just start drinking when it gets dark anymore. You have to be economical about your alcohol intake during the work week. Start drinking at 6, pound some waters and Advil, and be in bed by 10. Limit your visits to your college town. It sounds crazy, I know, but dont turn into the guy or gal that comes back every weekend. Quit living in the past, unless all of your friends stuck around for a victory lap. Never go more than three months without taking a weekend trip to visit one of your friends. Get as sloppy as possible for 48 hours, bar hop, eat a bunch of pizza, crash on the couch and relive the glory days.
