Information Pin configuration : The graphics connector or connectors (video-out) on the desktop's integrated or external graphics card will

always have a female connector. The graphics connector or connectors (video-in) on the monitor will always have a female connector. The end-to-end video cable, such as VGA-to-VGA cable or DVI-to-DVI cable will always have male connectors on both ends. DMS-59 Y cable that splits into Dual DVI or VGA always has a Male DMS-59 connector on one end and female dual DVI or female dual VGA connector on the other ends. HP DVI-to-VGA Adaptor has male DVI-I on one end and female VGA connector on the other end. Shipping Status : End-to-end cables are shipped with the monitor as part of the monitors standard package. HP VGA-toVGA or DVI-to-DVI cables, or both are shipped depending on the monitor model. DMS-59 Cable to Dual DVI or Dual VGA and HP DVI-to-VGA Adaptor are shipped as a part of graphics card package depending on the type of the graphics card. Details

Figure 1: DVI-D connector (female) AMD based Desktop PCs, such as dx5150, dc5750, or dc5850 have integrated VGA and Single-link DVI-D connectors. HP ADD2 SDVO PCIe DVI-D Adapter (DY674A) has Single-link DVI-D. Figures 2 and 4: Single and Dual-link DVI-I connector (female) Few desktop graphics cards have Single or Dual-link DVI-I connector, or both. DMS-59 cables Y end has Dual-link DVI-I connectors. Figure 3: Dual-link DVI-D connector (female) Most of the digital monitors have Dual-link DVI-D connectors. Figure 5: DMS-59 connector (female) Few desktop graphics cards have DMS-59 connectors.

Figures a and b: Single-link (standard) DVI-to-DVI and Dual-link DVI-to-DVI connectors (male) Most of the digital monitors are shipped with Single-link DVI-to-DVI cables. Monitors, such as HP LP3065 30-inch Widescreen LCD monitor are shipped with Dual-link DVI-to-DVI cable. Figure c: DMS-59 connector (male) One end of the DMS-59 Y cable has a DMS-59 male connector. End to End Cables :

HP does not ship DVI-I cables, because the digital monitors work with a digital signal. Hence the DVI-toDVI cable can be either Single-link or Dual-link DVI-D to DVI-D cable. Monitors that support 2560x1600 resolution require Dual-link DVI-D to DVI-D cable provided the desktop's graphics output is Dual-link DVI. DMS-59 Cable:

An adapter cable is needed for conversion from DMS-59 to two DVIs or VGAs, and different types of adapter cables exist:

HP DMS-59 to Dual DVI-I Cable

HP DMS-59 to Dual VGA Y Cable DVI to VGA Converters:

There are two types of DVI to VGA converters:

HP DVI to VGA Adaptor, which requires an additional VGA-to-VGA cable to complete the connection setup.

HP DVI to VGA Cable, which is an end-to-end cable that will connect from DVI-I video output from the desktop to the VGA Monitor input.
